Developing your potential - together

Joining a major company does not necessarily mean restricting your freedom. The Group's approach is entrepreneurial, and we want to make sure that we provide the professional opportunities that talented individuals need. Our recruitment policy reflects our determination to innovate. For you, that means a more open-minded approach, and more opportunities to demonstrate your potential and express your personality.

Joining the Group

The success of your induction is a promise for the future. That's why we make sure your integration into the Group goes as smoothly as possible. In 2009, some 1,700 new employees from our different entities took part in special integration seminars in Paris. Induction modules in each entity complete the StartinG integration programme in France.

StartinG: Welcome to the Group!

You get support as soon as you join the company. Your manager welcomes you and introduces you to the members of your team and to those you will be closely dealing with. He also introduces you to your "mentor", chosen from your business line, entity or subsidiary, but with no hierarchical link to your post. You can contact your mentor whenever necessary about questions concerning your working environment in your first six months with us.

Giving you what you need to progress

Enriching your talents to develop your career. Our efforts to build a high quality long-term relationship with our customers also apply to you. We develop human resources policies which take into account each individual?s aspirations and potential, while also matching the company's needs. In practice, that means advanced training courses at regular intervals, and internal mobility opportunities. You can take advantage of these opportunities to change positions, whatever your profession and your level of responsibility.

Train and become more effective
Your professional development is one of our priorities. In France, the hundreds of training courses offered cover a wide variety of fields, ranging from technical matters to behavioural and managerial issues. Each year we increase the range of courses, and adapt them to suit the new challenges facing each business.

Promotion and self-fulfilment
Our bespoke career management policy strengthens the loyalty and motivation of our employees. Our goal is to provide you with everything you need to develop your career in our Group. In each of our business lines, specific programmes are available to diversify everyone's experience. As a result, more than 9,200 of our employees in France changed posts in 2009, 69% of them in our branch network. As for promotion, 4,463 employees advanced to a higher level in 2009, and near 57% of them were women.

Take charge of your career development

Our collective performance depends on our ability to develop the individual skills of our employees. Under our career management policy, we have set up systems to help all employees develop their careers through appraisals, exchanges of views and concerted reflection.
For executives, the scheme (called Personal Performance and Development, PPD) stresses personal development and sets performance targets.
For the banking professions, the "Annual Appraisal" is the key to feedback between employee and manager.
Using these schemes, appropriate support measures can be put in place (specific training, skill development programmes, etc.), making sure that professional and personal development are focused on the needs of the individual employee.

Go for it and enjoy the rewards

Our goal is to attract, motivate and keep talented individuals on our staff, by making sure that their remuneration is competitive. Remuneration consists of:

  • A fixed salary which reflects your ability to carry out the missions of your post,
  • A variable individual remuneration which reflects your involvement and your own performance,
  • A collective remuneration which enables each employee to share in the benefits of the company's performance,
  • Access to very favourable retirement savings and personal protection plans, attractive health insurance cover, and many family-related and banking advantages.
We want to recognise your individual and collective contribution. Across the world, our employee share ownership plan has thus enabled more than 82,000 employees and former employees to become Société Générale shareholders: they hold some 7% of equity and thus benefit directly from the performance of the company. In France, we decided to enable our employees to share in our excellent results, and in January 2006 set up new profit-sharing and company savings plan (PEE) agreements.
