Employee training at Societe Generale
Our commitment to employee training dates back over 90 years. In 1921, the Human Resources department launched “perfection classes”, which were open to all adult employees working for the central divisions and branches in Paris and its suburbs.
This tradition continues today with SG Learning, the Corporate department. Over three-quarters of Societe Generale employees attend at least one training course every year. In 2015 alone we provided 4 million hours of training worldwide.
The history of employee training and internal promotion at societe generale
The subject of internal promotion is inscribed in Societe Generale's DNA. Before internal promotion, and to which it is intrinsically linked, employee training was already a historical issue addressed by Societe Generale.
Ahead of its time in this domain, practically avant-garde, Societe Generale, in 1921, develops the first division of internal employee training in the banking world.
Regulatory training
Reinforcing regulatory or supervisory training on risks and compliance remains an issue for the Group. In an uncertain economic context, customers, regulators, rating agencies and the public at large expect SOCIETE GENERALE employees to embody the values of commitment and responsibility, especially in these areas. Digitization makes it possible to offer to the greatest number of people possible a cross-disciplinary base of modules that allows each individual to be trained on these subjects and to understand the expectations of the Group according to their exposure.
Training for a better adaptation to the new business lines of the bank
In recent years, technological changes have been developed one right after the other at a rapid pace and require a rapid evolution of business lines. This made it imperative to set up strategic workforce planning in order to anticipate any banking skill needs.
Management programmes: Corporate University
Societe Generale Corporate University offers development courses (soft and leadership skills) to managers, strategic managers, strategic talent and leaders of all Group entities and regions with direct support from members of the Group Executive Committee or Management Committee.
Its targeted and innovative approach (rapid prototyping, coaching, co-development, business games, etc.) relies on experienced-based learning and perspective as its foundation, as well as on empowering participants in their own development.
It provides managers with the strategic vision and practical tools they need to improve their leadership capabilities over the course of their careers. It also helps them reflect on how to best promote Societe Generale's management culture and practices.
