One of the major challenges faced by Corporate & Investment banks today is how to adapt to increasingly complex and competitive environments, where the financial products provided to clients must keep pace with market developments.

The Operations division plays a key role in the success of SG CIB’s activities. Our teams work closely with major market players (international clients, banks, clearing houses, regulators ...). They ensure the quality and reliability of the operations that the bank executes on behalf of clients around the world, in compliance with international regulations and the highest ethical standards.

Every day they manage the bank transactions while minimising risk and ensuring client satisfaction, which means simultaneously meeting two requirements: handling the ever-increasing volume and speed of market and credit operations, while guaranteeing the security of transaction processing, in accordance with current financial legislations.
Operations hence supports the strategic objectives and development of SG CIB, and helps to preserve its reputation and make it a reference for our clients.

 

Different departments

Operations has several departments that are active at different stages in the lifecycle of a financial product.

Trading Support and Funding Originator departments

  • Oversee trading activity (model products in the IT systems)
  • Manage financing operations

Customer Relations departments

  • Support sales teams and manage the client relationship (CRM)
  • Manage collateral and credit risk.

Product support departments

  • Operational transactions for each family of products (Listed, OTC)
  • Send confirmations to clients and counterparties
  • Payment of funds and delivery of securities
  • Verify compliance with permanent monitoring rules

Cross-functional departments

  • Manage the security and quality of operations (reconciliation and accounting)
  • Manage projects related to regulatory changes

The duties performed require the ability to understand the issues raised as well as to communicate and develop partnerships with other departments within the bank.

Closing analyst

The closing analyst analyses new financing from a management point of view and has to determines the operational feasibility of the transaction. You identify all the players involved, interface with the front office and middle office teams, coordinate the collection of information and model the deal in the management tool. You work on a portfolio of deals in partnership with another closing analyst. You work in direct contact with the front office and middle office, with lawyers and tax experts, but also with clients. As your career progresses with us, you can move up to being a closing officer or a financing deal management analyst, and a structured finance portfolio analyst.

Structured finance portfolio analyst

As a structured finance portfolio analyst, you handle the closing of transactions initiated by the sales teams. You also monitor the risk associated with the transaction throughout the life of the deal. You work with the front office, the risk department, the finance department, but also with clients, lawyers, advisors, or credit insurers. You have an excellent knowledge of financial analysis and credit risk, and if possible a previous exposure to legal matters. You have strong interpersonal skills since frequent internal & external communications are required.
You can move up to the position of structured finance portfolio officer, to front office, the Risk department or to the Corporate and key accounts department.

Trading support and market operations follow-up analyst

As a member of the trading support and market operations follow-up team, you ensure the integration of transactions in the information system (input, control, validation). You are the interface between the front office and all support functions, particularly when issues arise. Good knowledge of financial products, responsiveness and interpersonal skills are required.

Collateral Management analyst

Collateralisation aims to reduce counterparty risk incurred on OTC market transactions by setting up a guarantee. This contract defines how the assets used as collateral are calculated. The Collateral Management analyst is in charge of reconciling portfolios of transactions with the counterparty, calculating the value of these portfolios, and exchanging collateral assets with the counterparty as stipulated in the contract. Working closely with all functions of operations management, you are involved in contract management, calculating and verifying the valuation, managing margin calls and disputes, while contributing to the improvement of processes. Significant experience in operations management and a keen understanding of counterparty risk are essential to performing this role, which has a strong relational dimension.

Client account analyst

By joining us as a client account analyst, you’ll be the main link between clients, the front office and other internal stakeholders. Your main tasks will focus on client service support, client requests and follow-up, incidents resolution, operational feedback & communication to clients, indicators analysis and various business lines monitoring. The covered scope includes a family of products within a single processing chain. A previous back office experience is expected for this position.
