Associate - Debt Capital Markets, Australia & New Zealand
Responsibilities
Major Accountabilities/Principal Responsibilities:
We are currently looking for an Associate - Debt Capital Markets (DCM), Australia & New Zealand to join us to engage in offshore bond origination (primarily in EUR, GBP and USD). This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and market leading team within a fast-paced, results focused, global organization that values diversity and that has strong growth ambitions for the Australian and New Zealand business. The successful candidate will be responsible for contributing to the development of the DCM franchise in the Australian and New Zealand market and will have the opportunity to cover a portfolio of clients, in addition build close relationships with the teams onshore and within the organization more broadly on a regional and global basis.
The Debt Capital Markets (DCM) team is a part of the Investment Banking Division which sits within the broader Global Banking & Advisory unit of Societe Generale. The team is responsible for addressing borrowers’ needs in terms of raising and managing capital in the debt capital markets. The client base for DCM includes corporate borrowers, financial institutions, public sector, and sovereigns globally.
In terms of debt origination, DCM’s activity covers issuance of bonds across the capital structure, including senior and subordinated debt, covered bonds, green, sustainable, and sustainability-linked, hybrid capital and liability management advisory. DCM’s activity also covers transaction management advisory, in addition to balance sheet advisory. We adopt a solutions-based approach to advising our clients and where relevant we collaborate closely with ratings advisory, debt solutions, sustainable finance, and derivative solutions teams to deliver a complete service to the borrower.
The successful candidate will play a critical role in enabling the team to:
- Build and manage strong and sustainable client relationships with target issuers in Australia and New Zealand, namely corporates and financial institutions
- Identify capital market trends and address clients’ needs in terms of raising and managing capital in the debt capital markets
- Provide best-in-class advisory to the client base
- Provide views on macro-economic trends and what that means for clients
- Represent DCM in all internal dialogues
Profile required
Qualifications, Experience & Knowledge Required:
- Relevant bachelor’s degree in and/or a professional financial qualification
- Post graduate qualifications considered favorably
- At least 3-5 years of DCM experience in origination, with experience in investment grade capital markets
- Experience contributing to origination and managing execution of offshore bonds for Australian and New Zealand borrowers, primarily in EUR, GBP and USD
- Product knowledge: EUR & GBP bonds (Global and RegS), USD bonds (SEC-registered, 144A, Reg S and Reg D), Private Placements (all currencies)
- Knowledge of, and familiarity with green/social bonds, liability management, corporate hybrids, and financial institution asset classes from Covered Bonds to Capital would be an added advantage
- Knowledge of ratings methodologies, bank regulatory frameworks and/or balance sheet management would also be an advantage
- Capacity to generate pitch material that is clear, structured, compelling, and comprehensive in addressing clients’ needs
- Capacity to understand and manage risks (conduct, reputational, financial, etc.) for the business line and the organization and act responsibly in line with SG Group Values, Code of Conduct, and other applicable rules & regulations

Internal: Coverage and Product teams (Energy, Infrastructure, Metals & Mining, Real Estate, Asset Backed Products) and related business lines such as Syndicate, Derivatives and Distribution teams and corporate teams (Operations, Compliance, etc.) locally, regionally, and globally
External: clients, prospects, and external advisors (e.g., legal counsel, advisors, technical consultants)
