Major Accountabilities/Principal responsibilities:

The global Natural Resources & Infrastructure Group within Societe Generale provides a full range of project finance and advisory services for producers, traders, processors and end-users of energy, metals and minerals as well as public sector through four key platforms: Energy; Mining, Metals and Industries; Trade and Commodity Finance; and Infrastructure.

The Mining, Metals and Industries business line is responsible for the origination and implementation of advisory, structured corporate finance, and project finance to miners, metals producers, and players in downstream industries including recycling and EV batteries. The business line operates internationally with teams based in Europe, Asia Pacific (Hong Kong and Sydney) and the Americas.

The successful candidate will focus on:

  • Preparing, customising, optimising and maintaining the financial model supporting advisory mandates, including creating and running complex financial scenarios and sensitivities
  • Interrogating the financial model for lead arranger mandates including creating and running of sensitivities and checking integrity
  • Providing day to day transaction to assisting the deal team leader to provide best-in-class lending and advisory to the client base
  • Respecting all relevant compliance practices and other internal requirements in relation to the execution of advisory & lending transactions
  • Managing internal processes relating to all arranging and advisory business (e.g. updating databases, credit application writing, completing relevant internal system-based processes)
  • Staying abreast of developments in the mining, metals and industries sectors as well as current transactions and opportunities in the market
  • Identifying potential marketing opportunities and preparing pitch material (including reviewing feasibility studies, detailed analysis of financial models, etc.)
  • Starting to establish a network of contacts at key clients and prospective clients
  • Supervision / development of junior team members including appropriate delegation and review of certain tasks suitable to the skills and experience of those junior team members whilst maintaining a high quality of overall team execution

Profile required

Qualifications, Experience & Knowledge Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Engineering or Business Studies or a professional financial qualification
  • Post graduate qualifications considered favourably
  • Minimum 4 years’ relevant experience
  • Understanding of the loan markets, their dynamics and the related instruments
  • Capacity to build, review and, where appropriate, supervise and manage financial modelling tasks undertaken by junior staff and assist in completion of more complex modelling tasks drawing on prior experience in financial modelling
  • Capacity to generate pitch material that is clear, structured, compelling, and comprehensive in addressing clients’ needs
  • Capacity to understand, analyse and where appropriate manage risks (credit, conduct, reputational, financial, etc.) for the business line and the organisation and act responsibly in line with SG Group Values, Code of Conduct, and other applicable rules & regulations

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Associate to join our Mining, Metals and Industries team. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and growing team and get hands-on experience within a fast-paced, results focused, global organisation that values diversity. The successful candidate will be involved in originating and executing a broad range of structured finance transactions in the Australian and Asian market and will have the opportunity to build close relationships with the teams onshore and within the organisation more broadly on a regional and global basis.
