Responsibilities

Department Description

Located in Hong Kong, the Shipping & Offshore Finance, Asia Pacific unit is part of the Asset Finance business line in the Corporate & Investment Banking department. We support ship owners and operators across the whole Asia Pacific region and for a large spectrum of ships, by providing innovative financing solutions ranging from traditional ship mortgage loans to export credit financings, leasing, advisory solutions and project finance transactions. We are at the forefront of green and sustainable finance initiatives in the shipping sector, and we closely accompany our clients in the maritime energy transition.

The department operates internationally with teams based in Paris, London, Dubai and Hong Kong. Out of Hong Kong, the successful candidate will contribute directly to the Asia Pacific arm of the global Shipping & Offshore Finance business line by contributing to origination and execution of mandates. The successful candidate will:

  • Assist in the origination of finance transactions in the shipping and offshore sector. These transactions will typically be corporate secured transactions, export credit facilities or project finance transactions.  
  • Assist in the execution of finance transactions including market and transaction-specific analysis, execution of the due diligence process, handling of the internal transaction specific procedures, assisting in the preparation of credit applications, term sheet drafting and preparation of indicative and firm offers and agreements.
  • Answer questions from the Societe Generale credit department and any other entities involved in the credit approval process.
  • Participate in the review and analysis of loan documentation assisted by external and/or internal lawyers.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure a successful deal closing and drawdown process.
  • Provide business line input in respect of the monitoring of transactions and their documented terms and conditions throughout the life of transactions (and including the annual review) by the middle office.
  • Maintain an awareness of shipping and offshore finance market conditions and trends including ESG.
  • Participate to wider ad-hoc projects / working groups impacting the shipping and offshore business line (regulatory aspects, ESG aspects etc.).

Profile required

Profile Requirements:

  • University or business school degree in a relevant discipline (business, commerce, law)
  • 1-4 years structured finance experience, preferably in shipping and offshore finance
  • Strong numerical skills with a solid understanding of accounting concepts, financial statements and cashflows 
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel - financial modelling skills
  • Strong ability in Microsoft Word and Powerpoint
  • Experience in either shipping and offshore finance and/or in another structured finance environment utilising similar banking / financing tools, processes and procedures
  • Fluency in Mandarin is preferred. Korean or other Asian language capabilities are a plus.
