Responsibilities

Major Accountabilities/Principal responsibilities:

The global Natural Resources & Infrastructure Group within Societe Generale provides a full range of project finance and advisory services for producers, traders, processors and end-users of energy, metals and soft commodities as well as public sector through four key platforms: Energy, Metals & Mining, Traders, Commodity Finance & Agribusiness and Infrastructure.
 

The Energy business line in Australia is responsible for the origination and implementation of structured and project finance for clients and large projects in the Energy sector. These include owners, developers and investors in renewable energy, power and waste energy projects, major energy utilities including regulated and non-regulated energy utilities, local and international owners and explorers in the petroleum, oil & gas and petrochemical industries and energy shippers including gas pipelines. Other clients include financial, institutional and pension funds and clients across other business lines.

The Associate or VP will focus on:

  • Contributing to the effective and responsible execution of lending and advisory mandates for the Energy team, including day to day management or senior support of certain mandates and activities. This may include taking the lead role or lead support role on execution of credit related transactions under the supervision of a Director or Managing Director and similarly support the execution of advisory transactions
  • Respecting all relevant compliance practices and other internal requirements in relation to the execution of advisory & lending transactions
  • Assisting the deal team leader to provide best-in-class lending and advisory to the client base
  • Contributing to the development of the Energy client base in line with company strategy and priorities
  • Assisting or representing the business line in internal dialogues when requested
  • Gradually building their industry, client and peer contacts in the local Australian market to develop a personal network within the local market
  • Supervision / development of junior team members including appropriate delegation and review of certain tasks suitable to the skills and experience of those junior team members whilst maintaining a high quality of overall team execution

Profile required

Qualifications, Experience & Knowledge Required

  • Relevant Bachelor’s degree in and/or a professional financial qualification
  • Post graduate qualifications considered favourably
  • 5 to 10 years of relevant professional experience
  • Understanding of the loan, export credit agency and bond markets, their dynamics and the related instruments, including credit and rates derivatives to propose relevant financing solutions
  • Capacity to review and, where appropriate, supervise and manage financial modelling tasks undertaken by junior staff and if required assist in completion of more complex modelling tasks drawing on prior experience in financial modelling
  • Capacity to generate pitch material that is clear, structured, compelling, and comprehensive in addressing clients’ needs
  • Capacity to understand, analyse and where appropriate manage risks (credit, conduct, reputational, financial, etc.) for the business line and the organisation and act responsibly in line with SG Group Values, Code of Conduct, and other applicable rules & regulations

We are currently looking for an experienced Associate or a Vice President to join our Energy Group. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and growing team within a fast-paced, results focused, global organisation with strong growth ambitions for the Australian business. The successful candidate will be responsible for originating and executing structured finance transactions in the energy sector in the Australian market and will have the opportunity to build close relationships with the teams onshore and within the organisation more broadly on a regional and global basis.
