Responsibilities
The CRO is part of the independent Risk Management Division (RISQ) and reports hierarchically to the SG Americas Chief Risk Officer in the USA, and functionally to the SG Brazil Country Head. The CRO will serve as the risk representative with the Central Bank of Brazil and the expert of CMN regulations pertaining to risk management. The CRO is fully independent from the business lines and will ensure ongoing oversight and challenge of day-to-day risk management activities performed by the first line of defense to manage their risks. The CRO is responsible to:
- Manage the development, implementation, and oversight of the risk management framework for credit, market, operational, liquidity, structural, model, and other risks in direct coordination with the second line of defense teams locally, regionally, and at SG Group level.
- Play an active role in local, regional, and Group committees by offering constructive and credible challenge to the first line of defense. This includes chairing the SG Brazil Enterprise Risk Committee and the SG Brazil Credit Risk Committee and representing SG Brazil in risk committees managed at the Americas regional level.
- Define with senior management the risk tolerance for each risk type and establish risk identification and assessment and risk measurement and monitoring processes to help identify, monitor and mitigate risks.
- Engage in regular reporting to the risk committees including second line review of relevant risk appetite statement metrics, risk profiles, significant financial and non-financial risk exposures, emerging risks, policies, and practices, as applicable.
- Alert management to any significant changes in business risks and internal control effectiveness and identify, report and escalate emerging risks applicable to SG Brazil.
- Interact with the Central Bank of Brazil, as appropriate.
Profile required
Position is based in Brazil, and requires appropriate local work authorization.
- 15+ years of professional experience in a leading financial services firm in the areas of risk management or finance.
- Strong knowledge of risk management including Credit, Market and Counterparty Credit, Operational, Model, Liquidity and Structural risks.
- Ability to influence a wide range of experts and senior leaders across business lines and support units at the local, regional, and global levels to ensure proper risk management and oversight of SG Brazil activities.
- Ability to effectively challenge the first line of defense in a constructive manner
- Within established risk appetite parameters, makes sound, well-informed, and objective decisions that support accomplishment of organizational goals.
- Protects the company by deploying appropriate risk culture through policies, communication, and training and balances short and long-term impacts to form sound judgements and decisions.
- Acts with integrity, due skill, care, and diligence.
- Maintains open and cooperative communication with regulators.
- Is fluent in Portuguese and has sound English language skills (oral and written)
