The Debt Capital Markets team is a part of the Investment Banking Division which sits within the broader Global Banking & Advisory unit of  Societe Generale. The team is responsible for addressing borrowers’ needs in terms of raising and managing capital in the debt capital markets. The client base for DCM includes corporate borrowers, financial institutions, public sector and sovereigns globally.

In terms of debt origination, the Japan DCM’s activity includes advising clients on the issuance of bonds of various kinds, including senior and subordinated debt, covered bonds, green bonds, hybrid capital and liability management advisory. We adopt a solutions-based approach to advising our clients and where relevant we collaborate closely with ratings advisory, debt solutions and derivative solutions teams to deliver a complete service to the customer.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • building and managing client relationships with target issuers in Japan, namely Japan corporates, financial institutions and agencies
  • identifying capital market trends and addressing clients’ needs in terms of raising and managing capital in the debt capital markets
  • providing best-in-class advisory to the client base
  • representing DCM in all internal dialogues

Profile required


  • Relevant Bachelor’s degree in and/or a professional financial qualification
  • Post graduate qualifications considered favourably
  • At least 7-10 years DCM experience in origination, with experience in Japan capital markets
  • Experience of originating and executing offshore bonds for Japanese borrowers, primarily in EUR and USD
  • Product knowledge: USD bonds (SEC-registered, 144A, Reg S and Reg D), EUR & GBP bonds (Global and RegS), Private Placements (all currencies)
  • Knowledge of, and familiarity with green/social bonds, liability management, corporate hybrids, and FI asset classes from Covered Bonds to TLAC Senior Holdco Debt to Capital would be an added advantage
  • Capacity to generate pitch material that is clear, structured, compelling, and comprehensive in addressing clients’ needs
  • Capacity to understand and manage risks (conduct, reputational, financial, etc.) for the business line and the organisation and act responsibly in line with SG Group Values, Code of Conduct, and other applicable rules & regulations
  • JSDA Class 1 Qualifications will be looked upon favourably in addition to past experience in a Bond Syndicate function

  • Ability to deliver coherent messages to team members and other stakeholders
  • Strong grasp of regulatory requirements between Securities & Branch

We are currently looking for a  Senior Vice President / Director to lead the Debt Capital Markets team in Japan with a focus on advising Japan clients on offshore bond issuance. You will become an integral member of the APAC DCM team which includes origination staff based in Singapore, Hong Kong, Korea and Australia as well as part of the global DCM platform. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing the DCM franchise in Japan and will have the opportunity to build close relationships with the teams onshore and within the organisation more broadly on a regional and global basis
