EU Policy Advisor - M/W

Belgium Permanent contract General Management / Strategy

Responsibilities

You will join the General Secretariat in the team in charge of coordinating and leading the Group’s advocacy activities vis-à-vis public authorities. Its missions consist in carrying out a strategic regulatory monitoring in France, Europe and abroad, and analyzing its potential impacts in order to enable Management to define priorities and positions.

As a member of Société Générale’s representation to the European Institutions team in Brussels, the EU Policy Adviser assists the Head of Representation in defending the Group's interests in the public policy sphere. The Adviser is a member of the Group Public Affairs team (SEGL/DIR/APG).

Tasks and responsibilities:

  • Write summary notes and strategic papers on transversal subjects concerning financial regulation impacting the Group, such as Capital Markets Union, Sustainable Finance and Digital Finance.
  • Ensure proactive monitoring of public policies likely to have an impact on the bank's strategy, including monitoring of the activities of the European institutions (European Parliament, Council, Commission and relevant agencies) and, where applicable, of European professional associations of which the Group is member.
  • Participate in the definition of advocacy strategies towards the European institutions: in particular by preparing briefs, position papers, outreach meetings in coordination with the BU/SU concerned.
  • Interact fully with the Group Public Affairs team, based in Paris, and more broadly with the public affairs correspondents in the various BU’s and SU’s.

Banks' activities are among the most regulated: in advanced economies, banking and financial regulations have come through as a major political issue, especially since the onset of the financial crisis.

  • You will contribute to the dialogue between industry and European authorities on a wide range of topics, in a context marked by the European Union’s structuring initiatives for climate transition (and the contributions of the banking sector) and to meet the challenges of the digitization of the financial sector, in light of the growing digitization of our economies.
  • The Public Affairs’ team coordinates and establishes Societe Generale's main advocacy priorities and makes the Group's voice heard.
  • You will be a key element of the permanent and ongoing dialogue with regulators and policymakers that the Public Affairs Teams seeks to maintain. In particular, you will liaise with the Commission, MEP’s offices, and Member States’ Permanent Representations.
  • You will have a great exposure to all the Group's Divisions potentially impacted by the regulatory framework: General Management, Business Lines (business units), Support Functions (service units).
