While production for most of these tasks is off-shore, Montreal team is responsible for oversight and management of the off-shore staff, and for the resolution of any issues, and the final product. The primary tasks of this role include but are not limited to the following:

  • Reconcile subsidiary ledger to general ledger for various products booked in different back office systems.  Products supported are Fixed Income Securities, Money Market Instruments, Foreign Exchange, OTC Derivatives and Exchange Traded Futures & Options and all Equity based products.
  • Identify root causes of different control break issues & partner with ITEC, Operations and other Finance business partners to put remedial solutions in place.
  • Diagnose repetitive root causes that create control breaks & partner with technology and operations to implement preventative measures going forward.
  • Represent the team as a subject matter expert on certain back offices and answer queries from other Finance teams on such back offices.
  • Work closely with internal and external audit teams, furnishing data\answers up request, with follow-up to explain where necessary.
  • Review daily commentary on breaks by the offshore team for accuracy.  Ensure that each break has an explanation, and if not, that it is actively being researched.
  • Work closely with offshore team to ensure detailed reconciliations for general ledger accounts that is processed manually to the general ledger outside of the upstream product systems. Perform Balance Sheet & Off-Balance Sheet substantiation and sign-off.
  • Co-ordinate with offshore team on the monthly breaks between accounting and inventory (AutoRec IV) and ensure no open breaks after the monthly GL close.
  • Identify the repetitive manual tasks and explore the opportunities to automate them using Business Intelligence tools.
  • Manage small to medium scale project initiatives involving individuals from diverse groups.
  • Assist with other tasks as required.


All team members have an over-sight role over the Bangalore team. Bangalore has its own reporting structure, however, the offshore team reports into the Montreal team functionally.  The Montreal team owns all Balance Sheet accounts for various MARK products, and is accountable for results and KPI

Profile required

Technical Skills

  • Strong working knowledge of diverse Capital Markets, with an emphasis on Fixed Income and Equity products.
  • Experience with reconciliations within a banking or financial institution.
  • Candidate must have experience working with reconciliation tools, general ledger packages, and back office processing systems.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.  Knowledge of BI tools like Power BI or Alteryx is a plus.

Experience Needed:

  • 5-6 years of working experience in the Banking industry, specifically Investment Banking.
  • Exposure to Finance, Accounting.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of Transaction Banking activities, with previous relevant experience.

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business and/or Finance.

Team Description:

The Finance Department (‘DFIN’) of Global Banking and Investor Solutions (‘GBIS’) is a global organization with local presence, providing the same set of services through global and efficient processes and consistent norms leveraging on production hubs. Our core missions are: Quality and timeliness of GBIS financial statements, Assisting GBIS management and all Business Lines in their steering with actionable reports on financial performance and forecasts, independent certification of all financial aggregates, financial communication and constant benchmarking, providing expertise on accounting, prudential and tax norms and ensuring compliance vis-à-vis these norms.

The Accounting group within DFIN/MAR/ACC mainly supports the MARK business line for GBIS.  The group is accountable and responsible for the independent production and certification of the accounting quality Profit & Loss (P&L) and Balance Sheet daily and monthly. Specifically, the Data Quality Assurance team within MAR (also known as DQA informally) is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of the information contained on the balance sheet.

DQA is responsible for the control of the daily and monthly accounting feed to the GL from varoius back-office systems, research and treatment of any error in the feed process timely. DQA is the owner of the product related Balance Sheet and Off-Balance Sheet accounts and is responsible to certify and support the balances in these accounts. REC is responsible to provide internal and external auditors with adequate support and explanation of the balances, complete monthly certification and reconciliation packages.
