Description of the Business Line or Department

Within the Investment Banking division of Societe Generale, the Debt Capital Markets (DCM) platform helps clients raise funds on the international bond markets through an advisory-oriented approach.

Within DCM, the DCM Solutions and Advisory (DSA) team provides Rating advisory services to key Financial Institution clients, structuring and execution advice on Liability Management, hybrid debt, and Green / Social bonds for banks, insurers, corporates and certain public sector entities.

The Rating Advisory team is more specifically at the service of the bank's Financial Institution clients in order to provide them with integrated solutions in terms of capital structure / rating advice / debt products and to promote the bank's offer in terms of capital markets for financial institutions. Also, the FIG Rating Advisory team advises Financial Institution clients independently (product neutrality) on financial and extra-financial (ESG) rating aspects.

Summary of the key purposes of the role

  1. Provide integrated rating (credit & ESG) advisory and capital structure advisory to financial institution clients of the bank and contribute to promote SG’s offer in capital markets under the guidance of management
  2. Provide rating, both credit and ESG and sector expertise to enable SG to profitably deepen the relationship with key banking and insurance clients
  3. Originate and execute rating advisory mandates (which may include SG / DFIN as a client)
  4. Represent DCM/DSA/ADV in internal dialogues with colleagues to provide best-in-class advisory to the client base
  5. Maintain and develop all tools, models and databases required to provide top quality advisory to the client base

Summary of responsibilities

  1. To provide best-in-class rating (credit and ESG) and capital structure advisory to financial institution clients of the bank
  • To effectively cover financial clients (banks, insurance companies) across jurisdiction under the guidance of management
  • To participate to the production of top quality advisory pitches including multi-product pitches, in conjunction with DCM, Coverage and other GBIS business lines
  • To become a trusted rating advisor, in particular to monitor rating agencies methodologies and developments and share relevant information with the objective to timely anticipate the impacts of potential changes on clients
  • To develop a solid expertise on the financial institutions sector including regulatory, financial and accounting topics and good knowledge of capital markets solutions
  • To develop a dialogue on ESG rating considerations
  • To support the commercial and P&L objectives of DCM by increasing SG’s eligibility for capital markets mandate through best-in-class advisory
  1. To successfully originate and execute rating advisory mandates
  • To position DCM/DSA/ADV for rating advisory mandates, in line with the overall commercial strategy and priorities
  • To manage mandates in a timely manner, in full compliance with SG’s internal procedures
  • To ensure continued usage of the appropriate presentation, credit, rating, underwriting, legal documentation as per prevailing compliance standards
  • To ensure that all internal and regulatory procedures are adhered to and complied with, including but not limited to compliance with Chinese walls, insider lists, conflict checks, management of confidential/insider information, KYC, MIFID (when relevant) and all related aspects
  • To be aware of operational risks and respect guidelines defined by the bank in order to prevent them, including meeting all internal compliance rules and compliance with SG’s code of conduct
  1. To actively contribute to maintaining and developing all tools, models and databases required to provide top quality advisory to the client base (rating relates to both credit ratings and ESG ratings)
  • To collect and process all rating related, financial and other data in connection with rating advisory and rating methodologies
  • To develop and use rating related models from all major rating agencies
  • To deliver solid modeling / financing material where relevant
  • To participate to the preparation of the periodic newsletter on FI ratings sent to clients and internal stakeholders, as well as more specific communications on significant rating events
  1. To contribute to the development of our holistic advisory model with financial institutions in line with the strategy and priorities of DCM and other GBIS stakeholders
  • To contribute to the overall advisory initiative with financial institutions by working in collaboration with key stakeholders / experts to deliver strategic and tailor made advisory content and solutions to clients
  • To develop and promote the rating advisory and capital markets franchise with clients and within SG
  • To keep abreast of new market/sector/methodologies/products developments and leverage them to increase the quality, innovation and relevance of SG’s advisory dialogue with clients
  1. To represent DCM/DSA/ADV in internal dialogues with colleagues to provide best-in-class advisory to the client base
  • To establish close cooperation between DCM/FIN/ADV and other GBIS business lines to provide clients with innovative rating advisory / solutions and best execution
  • To actively seek opportunities to cross-sell SG’s full product range
  1. To contribute to the good functioning of the DCM/DSA/ADV team in line with best practices and SG values
  • To adequately report to management information related to ongoing transactions and escalate problems appropriately
  • To provide management with a full and accurate view of pipeline deals via appropriate reporting tools in place
  • To provide guidance, support and training to junior staff to ensure that work is properly and timely executed and that a high quality of output is maintained at all times and as per deadlines
  • To contribute in developing a dynamic and collaborative work culture

Profile required


  • Technical:
      1. Strong expertise on credit ratings including rating agency methodologies to propose relevant advisory and financing solutions
      2. Understanding of capital markets and related instruments
      3. Good FI sector expertise including on regulatory, financial and accounting  aspects
      4. Capacity to generate pitch material that is clear, structured, compelling, and comprehensive in addressing clients’ needs
      5. Responsibility – capacity to understand and manage risks (conduct, reputational, financial, etc.) for DCM, GLFI, CORI, and SG Group, and act responsibly in line with SG Group Values, Code of Conduct, and other applicable rules & regulations
