Responsibilities

About our department:

Société Générale’s internal control is based on Permanent control (1st & 2nd Level) and Internal Audit that are separate and independent from each other while being complementary.

The Financial Supervision & Control Team (“CTL”) is part of the Second Level Permanent Control Teams that is responsible of monitoring the effectiveness of the accounting and financial control framework which aims at ensuring the quality and accuracy of Société Générale’s (“SG”) financial statements. It is a transversal role covering Control Testing/Reviews for SG Investment Banking Business Lines which are linked to SG entities across the Americas. The individual will be part of the CTL Team that designs test plan, collects samples, independently tests, and reports on test results and conclusion of control effectiveness. The CTL Team is responsible for the control test of all processes that have an impact on the financial statements, throughout Front office, Middle office, Back office, Risk and Finance Department process from transaction input to financial and regulatory reporting. The individual will have the opportunity to interact with global teams and learn the front to end process of a variety of financial products held by SG’s Canada entities and U.S. entities, including corporate loans, letters of credit, securities, repos and securities borrow/loans, derivatives, money market products, broker-dealer operations, underwriting, etc. In addition, the individual will also lead or participate projects that enhances the Second Level testing. Examples of projects includes methodology improvements, digitalization, data analytics, etc. The CTL Team of Americas has locations in Canada, U.S. and Brazil, and is composed of team members with various background and expertise in order to cover a wider spectrum of processes and topics.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Manage all aspects of accounting and financial reporting level 2 control reviews (identification of financial risk areas, walkthroughs, testing execution) over repo/reverse repo, stock borrow/lending, fixed income securities, equities, derivatives, margin, loans, letter of credit, money market products etc.
  • Propose improvements to financial control framework on accounting and financial reporting. Help and follow-up with their implementation
  • Monitor on the applicable perimeter, the evolution of risks, the normative changes and bank projects
  • Represent the Finance Controls team in front of Senior Management
  • Engage in equal footing with the first control teams to independently identify, measure, control and report aggregate risks
  • When applicable, lead staff assigned to the level 2 control reviews towards the set objectives (Set clear control steps and objectives to assigned staff, manage allocated time, and remain within budget, organize communication and status meetings with other members part of the same project, provide feedback when applicable)
  • Guide and train new or/and junior staff
  • Assume a leadership role within the team and take an active participation to the longer-term goals of the Finance Control team
  • Stay abreast of industry trends/developments to determine their impacts on SG's regulatory reporting framework
  • Promote technological improvements to the level 2 control function by automating workflows using business intelligence tools (Alteryx, Knime, PowerBI, Spotfire, etc.)

Profile required

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Must Have:

  • High knowledge of accounting schemes and treatment of financial products, and their impacts on PNL, balance sheet and off-balance sheet. Good knowledge of IFRS, U.S. GAAP and consolidation principles for Banks. Knowledge of audit techniques (risk approach, substantive testing, high view analysis, etc.)
  • Good Knowledge on Financial market and investment products
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills and presentation skills
  • Minimum 5 years of Experience in Audit, Financial controllership, Financial Consolidation & Supervision under Banking & Financial Industry
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field

Nice to Have:

  • Advanced degree a plus
  • Knowledge of French GAAP is a plus
