Description of the Business Line or Department

The rates research team is responsible for providing strategic recommendations in global rates markets to SG’s clients, as well as providing a key support function to the FIC business (both sales and trading). All GRS research is published via . The team is geographically split between London / Paris / New York / Bangalore.

Summary of the key purposes of the role

This is an excellent opportunity to obtain a good exposure to markets / market analysis and eventually play a significant role to develop a career in rates strategy research.

The 11-months role could lead to an offer of a permanent role within SG to interns who perform well within the team, subject to business needs.

The candidate will provide support to a team of 5 researchers based in London and Paris, both through daily responsibilities in the day-to-day running of the research activity and through project-based work

Summary of responsibilities 

The candidate’s key responsibilities will include

  • extensive analytical work for the desk

  • developing an understanding of rates markets and of the business

  • day-to-day support of the team in the production of daily research communications

  • data maintenance and data analysis where required by the team

  • project-based work which will involve data analysis and presentation of main findings

  • general support in day-to-day running of the team’s activities, focusing on improving the team’s productivity

Level of Autonomy and Authority

Candidates will report to senior researcher within the team (who will supervise his/her work), and work directly with most other members of the team.

  • The successful candidate will be London based, reporting to the key contacts above 

  • Interest in macroeconomic developments and their impact on capital markets

  • The candidate should develop an interest on bond markets and fixed income products and macro economic developments

  • He/she should demonstrate a superior level of knowledge and understanding of data analysis tools and techniques.

  • Excellent knowledge of Excel is a must, as well as some coding ability and willingness to learn. More advanced coding is a key advantage (e.g. Python/machine learning) but we will consider candidates with potential to learn.

  • Good communication skills are essential, with excellent verbal and written communication in English
