Responsibilities

Description of the Business Line or Department

  • Global Banking & Advisory (GLBA) Coverage is responsible for managing SG’s relationships with clients and offers a global advisory approach focused on a broad dialogue with clients and sits within SG’s Corporate and Investment Bank (SG CIB)
    • GLBA/COV offers corporate, financial institutions, the public sector and family office clients the whole range of products and services offered by SG CIB and the SG Group, with a focus on investment banking and corporate banking activities
  • The position will be based in London within the UK Diversified Industries Team within Corporate Coverage
    • The team seeks to originate and execute a wide range of banking transactions, e.g. DCM/hybrid, derivatives, trade finance, M&A, credit rating advisory, loans, pensions risk management, ECM/equity linked, cash management and working capital solutions  across the designated client base
  • In this position, the candidate will develop a well-rounded career in global commercial, corporate and investment banking and will be joining a strong team in a hardworking, and collaborative atmosphere at an exciting and dynamic time for the banking sector

Summary of the key purposes of the role

  • The candidate will work to support senior coverage bankers in the overall building of core corporate relationships, as well as on specific origination and execution projects across a range of banking products for the team’s clients
  • This will typically involve pitching and executing products and services across the areas highlighted above
  • Consequently, the candidate will look to develop relationships with contacts at client companies
  • Additionally, in this context the candidate will be involved in liaising with SG’s (product) experts typically based in London, Paris and other key financial hubs globally in the SG Business Lines and building relationships with members of those teams
  • Overall, this role requires delivery of  a wide variety of tasks working together with Analyst/trainee team members, including speaking with clients/SG colleagues, preparation of client presentations, financial statement analysis, financial modelling, company and industry research and deal memoranda etc., as well as helping manage key client processes

Summary of responsibilities

  • To act as support for the senior coverage bankers, to include:
    • Assisting with the day-to-day banking requirements of clients
    • Liaising with internal teams to ensure clients are covered in a timely and accurate way
    • Build relationships with junior members of the client teams
    • Meet the main contacts on the client side and thus provide back-up to the senior coverage bankers
    • Over time, take responsibility for a small number of smaller relationships
    • The preparation and pitching of presentations to clients
    • Financial statement analysis, financial modelling/valuation, company and industry research, transaction proposal/term sheet development, etc.
    • Development of transaction structures / structured solutions
    • Helping manage key client process, for example, KYC credit reviews, business reviews and onboardings
    • Keeping up to date with key banking markets, activities and topics

Profile required

Competencies

Technical Skills

  • 2 years minimum working in a corporate banking relationship management / other similar team covering corporates
  • Experience of basic credit skills
  • Awareness and knowledge of the full spectrum of corporate and commercial banking products and services
  • University graduate
  • Strong corporate finance, research and analytical skills
  • Very good command of MS Office
  • Good knowledge of market data products including T1.com, Bloomberg and Reuters

Regulatory Requirements

  • Eligible to work in the UK or equivalent

Excellent academic record with ideally a 2.1 degree or 1st obtained from a top rated University or equivalent

Languages

English, second language fluency is a plus
