Responsibilities

Major Accountabilities/Principal responsibilities:

The Debt Capital Markets (DCM) team is responsible for addressing borrowers’ needs by raising capital in the debt capital markets. The client base for DCM includes corporate borrowers, financial institutions, public-sector, as well as non-investment grade (high yield) issuers globally.

DCM’s activity in debt origination, within SG, covers issuance of bonds across the capital structure, including covered bonds, senior and subordinated debt, hybrid capital, liability management advisory, green and sustainable bonds. Where relevant for DCM transactions, the team also manages rating advisory services and is responsible for originating FX and rates derivatives transactions in collaboration with other specialised teams internally.

The successful candidate will support senior staff from origination to execution/closing of transactions and meaningfully contribute to the profitability of the group including:

  • Supporting and contributing towards client relationships with target issuers in Australia and New Zealand
  • Identifying and supporting to address clients’ needs in terms of raising capital in the debt capital markets
  • Provide support in the team providing best-in-class advisory to the client base
  • Assisting the team represent DCM in all internal dialogues

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Providing assistance with generating pitch material that is clear, structured, compelling, and comprehensive in addressing clients’ needs
  • Leading in the preparation of marketing documents (market updates, peer analysis, secondary pricing performance, primary pricing indications, sales memorandums);
  • Monitoring primary market developments (recent transactions, pipeline and market rumours) and sharing insights with the team
  • Preparing updates associated with relevant capital markets data;
  • Assisting the team in execution of transactions as required
  • Performing regular research on latest product developments and potential/existing business opportunities
  • Maintain an awareness of Australian DCM conditions and trends.

Profile required

Qualifications, Experience & Knowledge Required:

  • University degree in a relevant discipline (Commerce, Finance, Accounting, Engineering or Law)
  • Post graduate qualifications considered favourably
  • DCM or Investment Banking experience considered favourably
  • Strong ability in Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint, and Microsoft Office generally

Behavioural competency required:

  • Ability to work in a small team environment across teams located offshore
  • Ability to manage self in prioritising tasks and managing competing deadlines

Join Société Générale Corporate & Investment Banking (SG CIB) as Graduate Trainee in Sydney, Australia within our Investment Banking (IBD) business line in Debt Capital Markets. We are currently looking for a Graduate Trainee – Debt Capital Markets to join us on a full-time fixed term basis for 12 months. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and growing team and get hands-on experience within a fast-paced, results focused, global organisation.  The successful candidate will gain experience in all stages of a capital markets transaction and to have an active role in a client facing team. This includes having exposure to a working in a fast-moving industry, where the scope of work will cover a wide range of a financing business line activity, from origination, execution and closing.
