Responsibilities

  • Manage and develop a team of lawyers and documentation specialists who provide legal advice and transaction documentation for SG activities in Japan
  • Monitor legal risks and inform the Group Country Head, and the Heads of Departments on legal risks relating to the activities of SG in Japan
  • Maintain adequate reporting and cooperation with regional and global Legal teams
  • Comply with internal guidelines and procedures of the bank and of the Legal Department, and contribute to updating guidelines and procedures which relate to the above activities
  • Participate in new product committees
  • Participate where relevant and to the extent consistent with the team’s objectives in any relevant market reform, review, lobbying effort, working group, forum or the like
  • Ensure the performance of any permanent supervision controls

Profile required

  • Good understanding of the Japanese legal framework in addition to the global legal framework; i.e. ability to explain the Japanese legal framework to local management and ex-Japan SG stakeholders, and ability to understand and explain European / ex-Japan legal framework to SG Japan stakeholders
  • Solid product knowledge in SG Tokyo’s key product lines, in particular global market and with a focus on derivatives and structured products across all asset classes
  • Japanese speaking skills and ability to communicate and work well with SG stakeholders in the region and Paris
  • Ability to use scarce legal resources sensibly, develop an innovative and efficient operating model for Legal, implement an appropriate balance between internal and external legal resources
  • Ability to prioritize and to push back on non-legal or low value add tasks
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to engage, manage and develop people: a positive and collaborative mindset, ability to mentor, experienced in recruiting, retaining, and building succession plans
