Responsibilities

Description of the Business Line or Department

  • The role of RISQ RMA HPC is to provide for counterparty risk management for hedge funds, proprietary trading groups and CCPs.  The team provides independent risk control services for SG when exposed to these counterparty client types.  Performing risk assessment (due diligence, limit and rating validation) monitoring (exposure and counterparty creditworthiness) and risk mitigation processes for all core business lines within the SG Group that transact with, invest in, or take HF shares as collateral.

  • Located in London, the role is for an analyst within the global RISQ RMA HPC team

The key purposes of the role will be:

  • Assessing the risks related to SG’s clearing activities (for its own account as well as for its clients) with various CCPs, through quantitative and qualitative analysis;
  • Assessing the risks related to SG’s bilateral activities with CCPs;
  • Contribute to the definition, set up and enhancement of risk metrics, methodologies and procedures used for CCP risks assessment and monitoring at SG level.
  • The role also requires transversal, transformation project involvement for which a good knowledge of key RISQ processes and requirements and excellent communication and organisational skills will be required.

Summary of responsibilities

  • CCP Risk Management – the incumbent will be responsible for a portfolio CCPs will focus on assessing the risk on those CCPs and related entities (FMIs – financial market infrastructures) including:
  • Individual CCPs risk assessment regarding clearing risk
    • Assess the first level analysis produced by MARK/RSR (1st line of defense, within front office) regarding the risks related to individual CCPs;
    • When needed, conduct further analysis through CCP rule books, specific due diligence (assessing for instance the rules and procedures put in place by CCPs, associated documentation et financial statements), and risk metrics analysis;
    • Liaise with SEGL/JUR (legal) and OPER (operations) departments, regarding legal and operational aspects;
    • Write holistic risk analysis reports and make recommendations to the management regarding limits.
  • Potential participation to CCPs consultations, working groups and risk committees;
  • Deal flow: assess the risk related to bilateral transactions with CCPs, liaising with Front Office and relevant departments when needed, notably RISQ/ALM (liquidity risk management) and DFIN (finance) regarding liquidity aspects, and validate within delegations or make recommendations to the management;
  • Participate to the overall governance and projects around CCPs risk management (risk monitoring projects, definition and maintenance of rating models, set up of dedicated stress tests, …);
  • Participate to the analysis conducted through New Product Committees on activities that involve relations with CCPs (either clearing or bilateral);
  • Participate to the strategic surveillance of the market and regulatory context of CCPs, to propose relevant adaptations of the risk framework;
  • Projects: work on ad hoc and periodic projects around methodologies and tools, including procedures applied by the team.
  • HPC Transformation – playing role, as required by HPC management, in projects relating to HPC’s roadmap and transformation, in addition to developing a deeper understanding of HPC’s broader key roles, responsibilities and counterparty types.
