Investment Banking Associate - Structured Finance/Leasing

Responsibilities

  • Support senior team members in sustaining and expanding the SSM franchise through the development and origination of transactions for SG’s clients.
  • Support senior team members in ensuring compliance with the SSM governance principles including the transaction execution process.
  • Along with senior team members, represent SSM in internal dialogues to promote the SSM franchise

Other general responsibilities will include:

  • Assist in the development of product solutions for clients (research, financial modelling, etc.)
  • Assist in the origination of transactions for the SSM mandate in co-ordination with other SG business lines as appropriate (preparing client pitch materials, internal presentations, etc.)
  • Undertake or assist in the execution (including approval process, document review/finalization) for SSM transactions

SSM has a specific business model based on a “one team” approach for all products and jurisdictions. SSM operates under a detailed approval and monitoring process which reflects the structured nature of its activity and incorporates appropriate approval standards

Profile required

Technical:

  • Understanding of concepts underlying structured finance transactions or other investment banking products more generally.  This may relate to specific areas such as accounting or leasing, asset-backed financing, or more general areas of structured finance.
  • Understanding of origination concepts in relation to structured finance transactions across a range of client sectors. 
  • Ability to assist in the execution of structured finance transactions including preparation credit applications, review of legal documentation, and interacting approval and support functions.
  • Familiarity with analyzing deal opportunities including financial modelling, pricing, and accounting classification.
  • Understanding of the risk concepts (conduct, reputational, financial, etc.) underlying the governance process for SSM, GLFI, and the SG Group.
  • Develop pitch materials with the objective of sourcing new structured finance business opportunities SG’s client base.

Business insight

Structured Solutions & Mobility (SSM) develops, originates, and executes (alone or together with other business lines) structured banking products for SG’s clients. The nature of the transactions executed by SSM are varied but typically address a specific requirement of the client or SG (e.g., fiscal, regulatory, or accounting requirement) as follows:

  • Asset backed financing including the following:
  • Accounting (non-tax)-based leasing
  • Tax-based leasing
  • Asset-based financing
  • Acquisition of leasing companies and leasing assets
  • Balance sheet friendly financing solutions (e.g., synthetic lease, hybrid capital funding, service contract financing, etc.)
  • Focus on financing Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) friendly assets, including electric vehicles and infrastructure
  • Financing or hedging transactions which provide an attractive financing cost and/or regulatory/capital efficiency
  • Structuring M&A to increase efficiency on pre or post tax basis as appropriate
  • Optimizing return on investments or risk profile
  • Implementing efficient tools to manage cash positions including in emerging markets
  • Transactions to enhance regulatory efficiency (e.g., from Deferred Tax Assets)
