Responsibilities

Description of the Business Line or Department

The main mission of the Risk Management Division (RISQ) is to contribute to the sustainable development of the Société Générale Group's (the Group) activities and profitability by defining, with Finance Division and Business Units, the Group’s risk appetite (adapted in the Group's different business lines) and by establishing, in its role as second line of defense, a risk management and monitoring system.

More specifically, Metric Monitoring Group (MMG) objectives is to strengthen the expertise in the production, certification and analysis of P&L performance and market risks. MMG is also required to meet the regulatory challenges whilst accompanying the development of the business units (MARK). Ultimately, MMG’s task is to ensure that MARK and RISQ can carry out their respective roles within a controlled risk framework.

Located in London, RISQ/GBR/RMA/MMG/XRP/SGLB will oversee the business activities that are based in the UK under the entities of SGLB and SGIL.

Summary of the key purposes of the role

  • Analyse and follow the UK performance, client profitability and risks related to the LOD1 whilst complying with the bank’s policies, risk appetite and regulatory requirements
  • Contribute to weekly, monthly and ad-hoc reporting packs produced for senior management and various committees across the organization
  • Represent MMG UK in different projects on P&L and markets risks and ensure that the specifics of the UK are considered whilst migrating to target tools
  • Propose and develop process improvements and transformation initiatives to improve the quality of the P&L and Market Risk analysis

Summary of responsibilities

  • Follow-up and comment on the UK trading desks performance and market risks with a specific focus on underlying moves in the market and/or positions of the desks
  • Follow-up of the market risk framework (limits and thresholds, excesses) and alert both UK and Global Management about key market events
  • Participate regularly in business reviews and framework in collaboration with Market Risk Framework team
  • Work closely with management by coordinating and delivering on any special tasks
  • Work with risk analyst’s teams in Paris and Bangalore and other teams in Finance, Operations, Compliance etc.
  • Responsibility for preparing, controlling, managing and escalating risk within the scope of your role
  • Act with integrity and due diligence in carrying out your duties. Your actions should always be able to satisfy high standards of scrutiny.

Profile required

Competencies 

  1. A successful candidate would have experience in P&L and risk management gained either within the brokerage industry or investment banking
  2. An understanding of market environment, financial products, and associated market risks
  3. An understanding of the trade processing and general front to back systems architecture
  1. Systems knowledge is essential including the proficient use and of MS Excel (macros, pivot tables) and knowledge of coding language such as Python would be advantageous
  2. Strong communication and influencing skills are essential to build strong working relationships in RISQ and other stakeholders across the firm
  3. Strong written skills are also essential as the position will regularly require the writing of memos and presentations
  4. Self-starter, forward thinking and an individual who takes initiatives
  5. Ability to work under pressure to handle very high business requirements in a short period of time
  6. A growth mindset with a desire to continuously learn and constructively challenge the status quo
  7. Team spirit is also key to work in a team environment working towards the goals set for the team and department
