Operations Manager - Hedge fund

 Bangalore, India       Permanent contract        Risks

RISQ/RMA/HPC provides counterparty risk management for hedge funds, proprietary trading groups and CCPs for all core business lines within the SG Group that transact with, invest in, or take hedge fund shares as collateral.  HPC defines the counterparty risk framework for managing these risks, including associated limits and thresholds.

Main roles and responsibilities include:

  • Assessment of in-scope counterparties and transactions, (performs due diligence, initial and annual credit reviews, obligor ratings, reviews deal structures). In-scope counterparties include:
    • Investment Management sector having light regulation, high leverage, and complex or esoteric investment strategy; most commonly Hedge Funds and Proprietary Trading Groups
    • Market Infrastructure Institutions operating as central clearing or exchange that Societe Generale engages in bilateral market activities; CCPs
  • Approval of counterparty limits, thresholds and ratings in accordance with delegated Validation Authorities (initial, annual and ad-hoc reviews).
  • Monitoring of counterparty exposures (including exposure evolution and stressed exposure) vs risk appetite and ongoing counterparty creditworthiness (monthly NAV and performance monitoring, manager discussions,  external news sources, Watchlist).
  • Mitigation of counterparty risk exposure (sets margin terms, collateralization, credit terms for trading and netting agreements, ATE management).

Within the global RISQ/RMA/HPC setup, the GSC/HPC team is currently in charge of the following key responsibilities:

  • Collection of credit data (NAV and performance) from Hedge Funds and Proprietary Trading Groups. Timely collecting this data (which is usually private information on these type of counterparties), securing its quality and making it available as early as possible to all risk analysts across HPC is the cornerstone of the ongoing monitoring of our clients’ creditworthiness.
  • The Quick Filter process which is a fast track alternative to onsite due diligence for assignment of investment ratings (i.e. not obligor ratings) on Hedge Funds. Quick Filter is principally used to make a qualitativeassessment of all Hedge Funds pledged as collateral in the context of FoHF financing transactions. It is also used to assess Hedge Funds eligibility for direct investment purpose.

As part of its strategic roadmap, HPC will leverage further on the GSC platform with ambitious objectives of growth as a response to the continuous increase of regulatory pressure and requirements.
