Responsibilities

The role covers SG Business Lines and Group Functions in Asia Pacific and encompass various aspects of Banking Services with a core business activity focusing on Corporate and Investment Banking.

The auditor is responsible for the execution of audit assignments and controls with a strong focus on process and regulatory compliance.  He / she needs to assess the operational setup and corresponding risks with a process and risk-based mindset.  The auditor should possess working knowledge and understanding of investment banking and transaction banking business and related regulations in Asia.

Key activities in audit assignment are to:
•    Execute all audit assignments in accordance with internal quality standards,
•    Prepare audit work programs in good understanding of the specific risks to be evaluated,
•    Assess the control environment of both 1st and 2nd Lines of Defense (LOD1 and LOD2)
•    Perform audit controls within the committed budget and deadline,
•    Maintain clear work papers and audit trail of the work done,
•    Debrief auditees based on factual and clear findings,
•    Propose relevant recommendations to improve SG processes and reduce risks,

When acting as the Head of Mission, the auditor is also responsible to:
•    Manage the quality, timeliness and resources of the mission
•    Manage the relationship and communication with the auditees
•    Regularly assess mission status, report progress and escalate appropriately with anticipation
•    Write concise and clear reports to communicate audit results to the management

  • In addition, the auditor follows-up audit recommendations in a timely manner, assess whether the risks have been sufficiently mitigated to propose the closure of the recommendation, or to escalate to the audit supervisors and management when needed.
  • The auditor also contributes to the annual Risk Assessment to elaborate the audit plan and takes part to the Continuous Audit Monitoring processes to adjust the audit plan if significant risks arise.
  • The auditor should possess functional data analytical skills to be applied in audit work, in terms of designing diagnostics and investigation with a data approach, or data cleaning and programming.  
  • The jobholder is also expected to contribute his/her expertise to the local and global CEN Audit Community as well as sharing audit controls that could be implemented by LOD1 and LOD2 in their run operation. 
  • The auditor should be pro-active and shows full accountability in respect of conduct and behaviour.  He/she  should demonstrate a positive culture of compliance, risk awareness and ‘doing the right thing', towards internal stakeholders as well as clients and markets with which he/she is engaged.

Degree of autonomy

  • Hierarchical and functional reporting to the CEN Function Audit Director for Asia Pacific, based in Hong Kong.
  • A good level of autonomy is expected from the auditor in planning, executing and reporting audit assignments. He/she should leverage on his/her expertise to provide sound evaluation on risks and controls and to propose relevant and cost-effective recommendations.

Internal / external contact

  • The role involves regular contacts with both management and operational staff members within Audit and the business lines. The main contacts will be based in Asia Pacific, but there will be contacts with auditors and auditees from other regions as well and notably from Paris headquarters.
  • A good level of coordination and cooperation with internal audit teams is expected (business and IS auditors as well as data scientists from Asia Pacific and occasionally from other regions).

Specific context of the position (environment, special features, etc.)

  • SG Business Lines and Group Functions in Asia Pacific cover various aspects of Banking Services with a core business activity focusing on Corporate and Investment Banking.
  • The position is based in Hong Kong with several short-term travels of 2-3 weeks expected throughout the year in Asia Pacific.
  • The main focus of the role will be process and regulatory compliance.  He / she needs to assess the operational setup and corresponding risks with a process and risk-based mindset.  The auditor should possess working knowledge and understanding of investment banking and transaction banking business and related regulations in Asia.  
     

Profile required

  • Technical competencies and job skills required:
  • Bachelor degree or above in related disciplines, e.g. Accountancy, Law, Business Studies, Computer Science, etc
  • Minimum 7-10 years of total experience in business audit and/or operational experience in Compliance, Risk, Finance or the business lines
  • Good knowledge of regulatory reform, operational risk procedures and other compliance functions within banking
  • Data analytics skills and capacity to analyse audit trails using scripts or BI tools is a plus
  • Relevant professional certification is preferred such as: CIA, CA, ACCA, CISA, ACAMS, FRM, CFE, etc

Department Description

The Inspection General and Internal Audit Division (IGAD) is Societe Generale Group 3rd line of Defense under the authority of the Head of Inspection and Audit, who reports directly to the Group's Chief Executive Officer. Audit is organized in geographical and functional zones, while General Inspection on top of audit work covers more particularly major risks for the Group, transversal topics and strategic issues.

The main role of IGAD is to review operational entities in an objective, thorough and risk-based manner to assess the compliance of the Group’s operations, the level of risk actually incurred, the enforcement of procedures and the effectiveness and relevance of the corresponding permanent control set up. IGAD issues recommendations in order to better manage risks and to increase the efficiency of the Group’s activity.

The position is within the Central Functions (CEN) Audit Team based in Hong Kong.  Central Functions refer to corporate and support units within the Bank including Compliance, Risk, Finance, Tax, Legal, Human Resources, Communications and Sourcing.  The auditor needs to assess the processes and corresponding risks with a business context and be able to work with auditors from different divisions and locations.  The auditor will have a regional coverage and will contribute to audit assignments on SG Group entities in Asia Pacific.
