Responsibilities

As a business partner and a second line of defense, the SG Americas Compliance Department supports the Business Units and Support Functions in carrying out banking activities in accordance with regulations and ensuring the sustainable development of our business activities. Société Générale in the Americas is present in the United States, Canada, and Brazil where it focuses primarily on corporate and investment banking activities.  SG also operates in several Latin American countries where it offers a range of specialized banking and financial services. In addition to investment banking, SG in the Americas offers global transaction banking, securities services and equipment financing.  In the U.S. the services are offered through our New York branch, broker-dealer and other affiliates.

In its role, the Compliance Department contributes fully to the positive impact that Société Générale wishes to have on the transformation of our societies. Therefore, preventing market misconduct, managing tax transparency, combating money laundering and the financing of terrorism and corruption are all tasks that fall within the scope of compliance and contribute to the positive transformation of our economies.

The Compliance Department ensures:

  • Compliance with laws, rules and ethical principles specific to banking activities and investment services undertaken by the firm, as well as compliance with staff members' personal rules of good conduct and ethics; 
  • Awareness-raising and training of all players in preventing non-compliance and reputational risks.

Within a robust governance and risk management framework the Compliance Department provides expertise in Business Advisory, Financial Crime prevention, Banking, Securities and other applicable regulations, communications and trade surveillance, Second Line testing and monitoring and compliance risk assessment. As part of a global financial institution providing services across the globe, we also cooperate closely on a daily basis with our Head-Office and global affiliates to ensure compliance with the regulations in the countries where we operate and to address cross-border regulatory matters.


 The Compliance Digital Transformation Office (DTO):

Société Générale’s Digital Transformation Office (DTO) in the Americas is responsible for leading the innovation and digital transformation of the various models, systems, and processes used by the US Compliance department. Within DTO, we focus on Data Analytics and Modeling, Technology Transformation, Delivery & Governance, and the development of Business Solutions to enhance and automate Compliance processes.

We are looking for an individual with strong modelling, machine learning, artificial intelligence and data analytics experience, to lead the build and enhancement of our financial crime prevention models on client risk and transaction monitoring. As our capability in this domain grows, we will seek to implement models on other matters, such as for instance, market and electronic communication surveillance.


Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

  • Model development of various Financial Crime Compliance models, including the transaction monitoring surveillance models and client risk rating models
  • Conduct data analysis for tuning and optimization of various models and tools within Compliance, including the AML transaction monitoring system, the Sanctions filtering system and the negative news search tools
  • Work with the modelling team and with all stakeholders to document, monitor, present results and simulations, and facilitate the validation processes of Compliance models (Model Risk)
  • Ensure proper implementation of the validated models, and seamless support and cross-knowledge within the team
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes and procedures used by the various teams in Compliance through machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI), including instances where manual processes can be automated
  • Collaborate with other modeling teams in Head-Office or other area of the bank
  • Routine accountability is for technical knowledge and capabilities.

Profile required

Preferred skills are:

  • Relevant degree in a data science, computer science or related field
  • More than 5 years of experience using machine learning, performing data mining and statistical modeling. Experience on Compliance-related models is preferred.
  • Strong data engineering skills (Python and R)
  • Experience in software engineering developing, packaging, implementing and supporting applications
  • Ability to display a clear interpretation, communication, and presentation of results
  • Experience in working with data in a research context
  • Excellent research and analytical skills
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast moving and demanding environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially with regard to communicating highly technical information for non-technical audiences
  • Exemplary personal ethics and desire to always adhere to rules and regulations
  • Ability to work well in a highly diverse team
