Tokyo, Japan Trainee Software Development



  • You'll join a team of 6: 2 developers and 4 senior business analysts. The team executes projects, fix bugs, and do day to day production support. You will reinforce it by bringing in your development and software deployment skills.
  • Review and manage ~10 in-house applications to upgrade them to SG standards (some of them exclusively in Japanese)
  • Discuss with users (Middle Office, Back Office), analyze and execute enhancement requests
  • Help Front Office develop their activities by providing relevant IT advices
  • Devops: migrate locally developed tools to modern standards (internal PaaS offering), setup continuous delivery pipelines, etc.
  • Projects: help develop a major in-house electronic trading systems, add new features, connect to new markets, hand in hand with local Front Office and global (Paris, New York) IT teams.
  • The Japan team is small, so versatility is a key success factor in this position.

Profile required


  • The candidate must be fluent in English. Japanese is a plus.
  • The successful candidate will demonstrate the following skills
  • Curiosity, Autonomy, Initiative: there are lots of things to discover, documentation to read, solutions to test, and more generally ground to cover. Société Générale's IT framework is well developed, and requires a lot of time to get fluent with. Being able to work out on your own what needs to be done, and ask for help when stuck, is key.
  • Ability to plan ahead and execute according to the plan.
  • There's more to accomplish than your time will allow. You'll have to make choices, prioritize, plan, and stick to it.
  • Enthusiasm and Communication: you will interact with almost all other departments and teams: Front Office, Middle Office, Back Office, IT Infrastructure, Audit, Security. Each one of them have their enterprise culture and methods. Appreciating it is important.
  • Willingness to learn Investment Banking business: IT is at the core of the investment banking business. All other departments rely on the IT system for their daily job. Understanding what these jobs are exactly is fundamental.

Technical Skills

  • Experience in software development: C#, Java, Python, Web development (Angular)
  • Devops (PaaS, Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Basic system administration (windows / unix)
  • Databases (Oracla, Postgre, ElasticSearch and others)

Department Description

You will join the Information Technology unit in Tokyo, in the Fixed Income Technology department. This department is in charge of (including but not limited to): electronic trading systems, trade booking, deal lifecycle including confirmation, clearing, position management, settlement, regulatory reporting.
