Responsibilities

Description of the Business Line or Department

GLBA/AFI/MER originates senior secured lending opportunities on new or modern vessels for new and existing clients in accordance with the approved guidelines (regarding client quality, transaction structure, loan maturity etc), and provides financial advisory and debt arranging services to key clients in relation to the debt financing of liquefied natural gas vessels (LNG), floating production storage and off-loading vessels (FPSO) and other industrial shipping classes (as well as selective passenger vessels) on a project specific basis.

The London shipping team additionally (through dedicated individuals) provides commercial, financial advisory and private capital arranging services for transactions in maritime infrastructure assets: such as floating LNG mid-stream, exploration and production assets in the oil & gas sector. The team has a global remit. 

Summary of the key purposes of the role

To assist with:

  • origination and execution of commercial and financial advisory opportunities
  • winning mandates for private placement of equity
  • developing an investor base and to solicit investor interest for placing project equity
  • lending opportunities, both their origination and execution
  • cross-selling of SG products
  • compliance, KYC, credit, legal and other house-keeping activities that go with the job

Summary of responsibilities

Financial Modelling, Research

  • To build or analyse financial/commercial models
  • To research, identify and approach suitable investors

Drafting and Documentation

  • To produce satisfactory first draft of commercial / investment term sheets,
  • To produce internal memos for approvals, updates etc
  • Produce good drafts of pitch books and other marketing materials
  • To be able to negotiate NDAs, assist with negotiation of mandate letters, investment and commercial agreements, in all cases with legal and more senior support 

Client Interaction

  • To independently deal with execution staff of clients and investors including to Treasurer/CFO, CEO level
  • To identify relevant market trends, pick up market intelligence and to anticipate and be pro-active in developing ideas
  • To lead or support in the evaluation (qualitatively and quantitatively) of transaction ideas
  • To lead, support or assist in the identification, development and marketing of new ideas

Compliance and Regulation

  • Perform all required training on time and maintain good and up to date knowledge of GLBA Compliance and Conduct Handbook
  • To be on top of compliance and regulatory requirements, internal and external

Managing

  • To be able to help juniors to navigate through internal processes and approvals

Level of autonomy and authority

Issuing NDAs, pitches, financial models, with appropriate disclaimer and with prior approval of a senior member of the team.

Profile required

Competencies

  • Technical:
      1. Satisfactory knowledge of the energy industry
      2. Ability to value asset-based investments using comparisons, DCF and other relevant metrics
      3. Ability to write clear, structured, compelling, and comprehensive term sheets, marketing and decision material
      4. Ability to assist with assessment, structuring and documentation of an investible project
      5. Good understanding of energy clients, equity investors and banks
      6. Knowledge of regulation and conduct rules, as well as SG’s internal guidelines and business principles
      7. General understanding of banking products to assist with cross selling
      8. Capacity to understand risks (conduct, reputational, financial, etc.) and act responsibly in line with SG Group Values, Code of Conduct, and other applicable rules & regulations
