Description of the Business Line or Department
The Shipping & Offshore Finance business line originates senior secured lending opportunities on new or modern vessels for new and existing clients in accordance with the SGCIB approved guidelines (regarding client quality, transaction structure, loan maturity etc.), and provides financial advisory and debt arranging services to key clients in relation to the debt financing of industrial shipping, liquefied natural gas vessels, floating production storage and off-loading vessels (FPSO) and other offshore assets on a project specific basis.
The London LNG Shipping & Offshore Finance team covers LNG shipping and offshore transactions on a global basis and has been involved in many landmark lending, bond and advisory transactions.
The London team works closely with the Bank’s other Shipping & Offshore finance teams based in Paris and Hong Kong, with the Bank’s client relationship managers and with other specialised teams such as the reserve based finance, export finance, structured solutions & leasing, debt capital markets, syndication and derivative teams.
Summary of key purposes of the role
Build and manage client relationships with current/target borrowers on a global basis within LNG Shipping and the Offshore sectors and deliver the bank’s capabilities to them
Assist in identifying and addressing clients’ needs and provide value-added, best-in-class solutions (whether through advisory, loan/commercial structuring or capital raising and management)
Represent the Shipping & Offshore Finance team in internal dialogues to ensure appropriate understanding of the business and transactions by relevant stakeholders, leading to trust and support in return
Summary of responsibilities
To effectively cover clients, usually (but not always) in a support capacity to a deal leader or to act as a deal leader, to address their borrowing needs in bank or debt capital markets
Originating, executing or advising on LNG shipping and offshore transactions; some foreign travel required
Client interaction, pitches and presentations
Negotiating term sheets and loan documentation
Liaising with banks and consultants/advisors
Develop opportunities for non-banking investors in debt and equity with our structured client solutions.
2. To oversee the effective and responsible execution of mandates
Dealing with internal stakeholders (credit/risk, legal, insurance, middle office, syndication, interest rate/FX derivatives, KYC etc)
Monitoring performance of loan portfolio and addressing waivers, annual reviews etc
Support and develop more junior members of the team in execution of transactions.
3. When required, to promote the development of advisory and product offering in line with the team’s strategy and priorities
Analyze risk and risk mitigation and play an active part in the credit process on individual transactions.
Ongoing cooperation with other business lines including export finance, structured solutions & leasing, natural resources, interest rate derivatives etc. re cross-selling opportunities involving vessel financing.
Ongoing cooperation and interaction with the loan syndication divisions re. banking and institutional investor markets on general basis and in relation to specific transactions.
Ongoing discussion with the Bank’s relationship managers re. new and existing transactions for clients of the Bank.
4. To develop the business line’s client base in line with the Bank’s strategy and priorities:
Working with senior team members to actively target business in accordance with internal guidelines and the set strategy – raising the team’s profile with clients, prospects, banks and market counterparties.
Supporting more senior team members to develop sustainable revenue growth and client base on global basis in line with internal guidelines relating to counterparty risk, transaction structure, loan maturity etc
