Responsibilities

Description of the Business Line or Department

  • Investment Management (IM) provides a wide range of investment services to clients.
  • It includes a Team of Investment Managers (IMs), an Execution Desk, an Implementation Team, a Portfolio Construction Team, and Strategy. 
  • IMs work with Client Relationship Managers (CRMs) and Wealth Planners (WPs) to provide investment solutions on a Discretionary (DPM) and Advisory (ADV) basis to clients and prospects.
  • The Implementation Team manage unconstrained discretionary portfolios in line with IM recommended portfolios and clients’ Investment and Risk.

Summary of the key purposes of the role

The role will be shared 50:50 between supporting Investment Managers and the Portfolio Implementation Team. Ad hoc assistance to other teams within IM may also be required from time to time.

  • Assist Investment Managers in the management, administration and implementation of client portfolios and funds including participation in client meetings where appropriate
  • Manage Discretionary investment portfolios in line with client objectives and Kleinwort Hambros Investment Committee (KHIC) Recommended Asset Allocations (RAA) in an efficient manner
  • Monitor and maintain portfolio static data
  • Monitor investment management processes and report exceptions to IM management.
  • Produce management information on the IM activities.
  • Update IM marketing and other materials, in particular client Portfolio Review Packs (PRP)
  • Work towards improving and automating existing processes
  • Complete all structured and unstructured learning as part of the CFA Level 1 apprenticeship programme

Summary of responsibilities 

  • Manage portfolios according to the established investment and dealing process for discretionary clients
  • Rebalance portfolios following client instructions (Cash flows/requests, strategy changes, open/closure et al)
  • Adhere to the DPM Policy and underlying investment strategy
  • Perform ongoing investment controlling, performance and risk monitoring of the portfolios
  • Clear overdrafts
    • Review list of overdrawn accounts and discuss appropriate actions with relevant portfolio managers.
    • Take relevant actions to rectify overdrafts
  • Operating Risk and Regulatory responsibilities
    • Carry out permanent supervision checks on portfolio investment processes.
    • Perform all duties in line with KH procedures.
    • Comply with relevant jurisdiction regulation and always treat customers fairly.
  • Marketing materials
    • Update investment and other marketing materials.
  • Product knowledge
    • Develop an in-depth knowledge of the KH investment proposition; process, strategies, service tiers.
    • Contribute as appropriate to asset class committees
  • Report on Investment Performance
    • Support Investment Managers with ad hoc performance analysis.
  • Management Information
    • Produce management information on IM activities as required.
  • Client Communication
    • Contribute to written client materials as required.
    • Answer ad-hoc client queries as required.
    • Attend client meetings with investment managers as required.
       
  • Provide ad hoc coverage other IM desks as may be required; Execution Only, Strategy
  •  Comply with the regulations, rules and procedures, internal and external applicable in the context of its function and follow the compulsory training.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with the principles outlined in the SG Code of Conduct, as well as the policies and procedures relevant to your responsibilities, to ensure that you adhere to a culture that treats clients fairly and focuses on the long term sustainability of client relationships.
  • Complete all work and learning as part of the CFA Level 1 apprenticeship programme

Level of Autonomy and Authority

Answer ad-hoc client queries but not provide client advice, unless separately authorised.

Rebalancing of DPM portfolios in line with recommended portfolios and DPM policy. Trades to be approved by Authorised individual.

Profile required

Competencies

  • Individual contributor competencies as defined in the SG Leadership Model
  • Basic understanding of all major asset markets (equities, bonds, FX, commodities, hedge funds)
  • Basic understanding of asset allocation and portfolio construction principles
  • Basic understanding of investment risk management issues.
  • Basic knowledge of UK regulatory framework.
  • Strong analytical skills

  • Good communication skills
  • Competency with Microsoft Office programs (in particular Excel)

WORK EXPERIENCE

Degree graduate or equivalent

EDUCATION

Undergraduate or post-graduate degree

A relevant 2nd degree or other qualification (such as CISI Level 4 or CFA) would be desirable.

LANGUAGES

Fluent in English

French desirable, but not a requirement
