Description of the Business Line or Department

The European Leveraged Capital Markets team (also known as Leveraged Capital Markets) is reponsible for the arrangement, underwriting and syndication of non-investment grade loans, HY bonds and private subordinated debt across the EMEA region.  The team works closely with origination business lines (for Telecoms & Media clients as well as Private Equity Sponsors and with Coverage clients), as well as partnering with other loan syndicate teams in Europe, US, Asia and with High Yield Bond Syndicate. Within LCM the High Yield Capital Markets team is responsible for addressing borrowers’ needs in terms of raising and managing capital in the debt capital markets, mostly for corporate entities and including leveraged buy-out situations.

Summary of the key purposes of the role

  • Support the senior members of the Leveraged Capital Markets team who are responsible for underwriting, structuring and executing Societe Generale's leveraged transactions in EMEA
  • Provide support on both analytical and presentational work, often within tight deadlines
  • Become an invaluable member of the team by producing reliable and accurate market data and comparable analysis in order to assist senior colleagues
  • To promote integrated financing solutions via the preparation of materials for the Leveraged Capital Markets teams

Summary of responsibilities

Market analysis:

  • Ensure that the team is provided with up to date market analysis, as well as sharing this analysis with other business lines
  • Preparation of weekly/fortnightly market update materials and other reporting tools, as well as timely reporting to league table publishers
  • Responsibility for maintaining an updated database of comparable transactions (comps) and utilising this database for market analysis

Marketing/syndication/road-show materials:

  • Provide support on the analytical side, help prepare lender/investor presentations and client marketing as well as being extremely organised, with strong time management discipline
  • Preparation of client pitches and other marketing materials including deal tombstones
  • Assist in the creation of syndication/road-show materials: teasers, Information Memoranda, management presentations (involving close co-operation with origination teams)

Admin / mandatory files:

  • Preparation of deal closing files: closing memos, deal summaries which are shared internally with other business lines


  • Work will often require detailed research and cooperation with other departments within the bank: Sales and Trading, other Syndicate teams (including US and Asia), Origination, Financial Sponsor Coverage

Profile required


  • Strong time management: multi-tasking / prioritising / meeting tight deadlines
  • Fluent English to business standard, including written ability; other foreign languages a plus but not mandatory
  • Very high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Willingness to ask questions and learn quickly
  • Communication skills (learning from others in the team, especially the mentor)
  • Teamwork (helping out wherever and whenever needed)
  • Adaptability / flexibility (including on working hours)
