US GAAP Accounting Policy Specialist

  • Maintaining the US GAAP Accounting Policy Manual including the updating and creation of US GAAP accounting policy memorandum and accounting Q&A memos, especially when changes occur in the standards and also to support New Product Committee normative opinions.
  • Maintaining IFRS vs.US GAAP vs French GAAP – matrices of differences.
  • Assisting with the implementation of new accounting policy requirements through producing detailed technical analysis in this area and contributing to Group discussions (US and IFRS) as subject matter expert.
  • Prepare and present accounting training sessions to the Finance, RISK, Operations and Internal Audit teams where applicable on US GAAP and IFRS.
  • Work closely with the business line, finance colleagues and Global NORMS team members providing rigorous analyses (emails, accounting Q&A’s, etc.) of new and complex products and transactions, ensuring that the accounting policies are understood, and decisions are appropriately documented.
  • Interact and communicate effectively with senior management and staff from across the different areas within the Bank. Internally clients will be professionals in diverse front office and support functions and at various levels including senior management for high profile topics.
  • Represent SG at industry accounting forums.
  • You’ll be a member of the Norms TEAM in AMER (US, Canada, Brazil) and interface with the various Paris Norms Team members. The Norms team is a group of highly trained accounting subject matter experts that deliver and provide all the accounting policy needs of the Business Divisions.
  • As accounting standards are constantly changing, we stay at the forefront of those developments to ensure we provide appropriate accounting guidance that takes account of those developments and training for a sustainable control environment. 

Profile Required


  • Your expertise • Higher Education (university degree in Accounting), CPA license, MBA a plus.
  • Overall work experience of 10 to 12 years with some years in public accounting and some years and  work experience in a financial service company’s accounting policy department.



  • A very good understanding of USGAAP with ideally feeling comfortable working in an accounting policy / accounting advisory capacity advising on such.
  • An individual who is comfortable working with internal and external auditor with explaining and documenting responses to their questions.
  • Experience within the financial services industry including product knowledge and related accounting treatment under IFRS and US GAAP
  • An excellent communicator (both orally and in writing particularly in technical accounting arena) with ability to interact and to be understandable to staff at all levels including senior management. A large part of the position will be writing documentation on how to apply normative accounting under US GAAP, as well as IFRS.  The documents must be clear and precise.
  • An individual with strong analytical skills.
  • Methodical, concise and accurate, with strong attention to detail.
  • Proactive, hands on solution oriented and flexible and always follow up to ensure internal clients are satisfied with results.
  • An individual who displays commitment and strong ownership of tasks and works consistently towards goals and resolutions.
  • Able to cooperate and consult appropriately with a wide range of individuals both within the Norms team and the wider organization
  • Able to balance demands of a diverse client and project portfolio in a dynamic environment.
  • Fluent in English
  • Proficient user of MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and Outlook.

Business Insight

The primary purpose of this role is to provide accounting policy advice as a subject matter expert in SG AMER’s multi-GAAP environment (including both IFRS, US GAAP and French GAAP) within the Finance Department and to all other support functions and front office business lines.

The IFRS/ US GAAP / French accounting advice will cover a wide range of areas of products and transactions for Investment Banking and Capital Markets activities.  Must be a subject matter expert in US GAAP with also detailed knowledge of IFRS.  Knowledge required under both GAAP’s include product knowledge, derecognition accounting, hedge accounting, consolidation, impairment (IFRS 9.2 and CECL US GAAP), classification and measurement of financial instruments, derivative, lease accounting and revenue recognition.
