The Asia-Pacific Legal division has a local presence in China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Korea, and Singapore. Hong Kong is the regional Legal hub; it is also the regional business hub. The Hong Kong Legal team has approx. 30+ staff and split into four key teams:
- Debt Securities and Listed Products
- OTC, Cash Equities and Master Agreement
- Global Finance
- COO
The main responsabilities are:
- Providing legal advice and assistance to Front Office representatives and other departments of the bank (under the supervision of senior members of the team) for ensuring the transaction management of matters in relation to: (i) debt instrument issuances distributed in Asia (ex Japan), (ii) structured products listed in Asia, including preparation of legal documentation (term sheets, final terms, other offering documents, other marketing materials, distribution agreements etc).
- It is an opportunity for a Junior Lawyer to be trained and exposed to structured products in a dynamic financial market environment. The candidate will gain hands-on experience with drafting legal documentation in relation to structured products and exposure to innovative structures. The candidate will gain a solid understanding of the investment banking set-up and acquire valuable interpersonal soft skills.

PLEASE NOTE that since this program is primarily an international development program, candidates cannot apply to a VIE assignment in their own country of citizenship.

Studies & experience:
- Graduate with a Master degree from Business/Engineering School or University with a specialization in international banking law / international business law. A' Level with major in mathematics preferred. Candidate should understand and not be afraid of mathematical formulae. Prior studies in common law subjects preferred.
A previous experience in investment banking/financial institutions and/or experience wiht derivatives or equity/commodity linked products would be appreciated.
Language skills:
Fluent in English is mandatory
Technical, operational & Soft skills:
- Good communication and presentation skills, team spirit and time management.
- The successful candidate should have a basic understanding of the structures of a derivative. He/She should be interested in financial products and capital markets. Additionally, he/she should understand and not be afraid of mathematical formulae.
The VIE assignment in a nutshell
This VIE in Hong Kong is to begin as soon as possible, but you need to plan 3 months between your application date and the beginning of your VIE assignment. It will last 12 months.
The VIE is a specific contract, under Business France’s eligibility criteria, opened to candidates under 28 and from the member states of the European Economic Space. For further information (including your financial indemnities), please see Mon VIE-VIA Business France.
