Opened in 1981, and located in Sydney, Societe Generale in Australia provides products and services in the areas of financial advisory and global markets. Societe Generale Securities Australia is a full participant of the ASX24 and its businesses range from futures clearing to prime broking and clearing to equity and derivatives sales. Subject to regulatory approval, Societe Generale will provide banking services in Australia from Q2 2019.


There are currently 45 members of staff in Sydney, representing 10 different nationalities, from different business lines and corporate functions. We are currently looking for an Associate – Real Estate to join us. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and growing team and get hands-on experience within a fast-paced, results focused, global organisation. The successful candidate will be involved in a broad range of transactions and will build close relationships with the teams onshore and within the organisation more broadly on a regional and global basis.

Mission

Major Accountabilities/Principal responsibilities:

The global Real Estate team within Societe Generale offers a range of solutions to real estate investors for financing the acquisition of or refinancing office properties, retail/shopping centers, logistics assets, hotels and, in certain circumstances, multi-family assets and care homes, located in the main European countries, in the US and in Japan. This includes both traditional non-recourse mortgage loans and capital market financings as well as debt advisory services.

The successful candidate will:
  • Assist in the origination of finance transactions in the real estate sector in Australia. These transactions will typically be non-recourse (secured) or corporate (secured) transactions. 
  • Structure and assist the regional hub in the execution of finance transactions including market and transaction-specific analysis, execution of the due diligence process, assisting in the preparation of credit applications, performing obligor and transaction rating, term sheet drafting and preparation of offers and agreements.
  • Answer questions from the Societe Generale credit department and any other entities involved in the credit approval process.
  • Participate in the execution of loan documentation assisted by external and/or internal lawyers.
  • Coordinate with and assist the Bank's loan distribution experts in the primary and/or secondary distribution of loans in accordance with the agreed strategy. 
  • Monitor and follow-up the client relationship and provide business line input in respect of the monitoring of transactions and their documented terms and conditions throughout the life of transactions (and including the annual review) by the middle office.
  • Maintain an awareness of Australia real estate market conditions and trends.
  • Play an active role in the on-the-job training and development of the business line’s junior staff.

Profile

Qualifications, Experience & Knowledge Required:
  • University degree in a relevant discipline (business, commerce, law).
  • 3-5 years structured finance experience, preferably in real estate finance.
  • Strong numerical skills with a solid understanding of accounting concepts, financial statements and cashflows 
  • Financial modelling skills
  • Strong ability in Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint, and Microsoft Office generally
  • Knowledge of Australia real estate market conditions and trends.
  • Knowledge of Australian regulation and law related to real estate.
Behavioural Competency Required:
  • Ability to work in a small team environment.
  • Analytical skills.
