Responsibilities

We are seeking a Casablanca-based Regulatory Data Analyst to join our Regulatory Technology and Control group.

This is a key role for Bernstein that involves working with high-volume trading data to improve the accuracy, timeliness, and completeness of the firm’s regulatory reporting and trade recordkeeping.  We are looking for a data analyst who is passionate about data quality and eager to learn more about financial services and Bernstein’s Equity broker dealer business.

The Regulatory Data Analyst is responsible for designing and operating controls to ensure the accuracy, timeliness, and completeness of Bernstein’s regulatory reporting obligations, including MiFID II Transaction Reporting, MiFID II OTC Post-Trade Transparency, and Trade Surveillance.

The Regulatory Data Analyst will work closely with Equity trading and trade support to understand trading scenarios and validate that Bernstein’s regulatory reporting reflects the firm’s Equity trading activity.  The successful candidate will promote innovative data analysis techniques and will gain knowledge in cash and electronic trading scenarios, trading technology, data analysis, control design, and regulatory compliance.

The role involves significant exposure to senior management given the critical importance of regulatory reporting to the business, and the successful candidate may be asked to present status updates, including top risks and issues, at the firm’s monthly Data Governance Committees.

  • The key job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

o   Gain subject matter expertise in global Trade and Transaction Reporting requirements as well as Trade Surveillance regulatory obligations;

o   Understand how these regulatory reporting requirements apply to Bernstein’s broker dealer business;

o   Design and implement controls and reconciliations to ensure the accuracy, timeliness, and completeness of Bernstein’s regulatory reporting and trade surveillance;

o   Work closely with Equity trading and trade support to understand Equity trading scenarios and how these are represented in the data models of Bernstein’s trading systems;

o   Investigate and repair regulatory reporting and trade surveillance data quality issues;

o   Analyse and document regulatory reporting data flows from front-office trading systems to regulators;

o   Proactively identify regulatory reporting issues by analysing data in innovative ways, e.g. by using Python data analytics or PowerBI;

o   Maintain and prioritize a backlog of work for the regulatory reporting team;

o   Present status updates, risks, and issues at the firm’s Data Governance committee;

o   Work with regulatory technology resources to clarify requirements and review software increments.

  • The role provides the following opportunities for learning and professional growth:
    • Gain in-depth financial services knowledge, including Equity trading scenarios.
    • Learn the data model and business processes of a major brokerage firm.
    • Gain experience in PySpark data analysis and Azure cloud-based technologies such as Azure Synapse, Spark, Delta Lake, and PowerBI.
    • Become an expert in in MiFID II trade and transaction reporting.

Profile required

We are seeking a highly motivated candidate with a strong technology, data, or business analysis background who would like to join a critical business function at a leading Financial Services firm.  The candidate must be eager to learn and willing to invest significant time in understanding our Equity trading business, trade and transaction reporting, and the trading data that drives our reporting.

Experience writing SQL queries or using Python for data analytics is preferred, and existing knowledge of Cash Equity trading scenarios and trade and transaction reporting would be beneficial.

The successful candidate will collaborate closely with business analysts and technologists and should be comfortable presenting complex issues to a senior audience.  We are looking for a candidate who is passionate about improving business outcomes by using technology to automate processes and analyse data in innovative ways.

Qualifications, Skills, Experience, and Education

  • Required:

o   Ability to adapt and learn new functions:

·       Learn reporting regulations and trading scenarios relevant to Bernstein’s Cash Equity business;

·       Analyze and interpret high volumes of trading and transaction reporting data;

·       Design and implement controls to ensure the accuracy, timeliness, and completeness of regulatory reporting data, from trading system to regulator.

o   Strong verbal and written communication skills – ability to summarize complex issues and extract relevant detail for presentation to senior stakeholders.

o   Strong inter-personal communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues.

  • Preferred:

o   Bachelors or Masters degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) field;

o   2+ years of experience writing SQL queries or using Python for data analytics;

o   Knowledge of Cash Equity trading scenarios and Cash Equity trading systems;

o   Experience building relationships across multiple teams, e.g. Trading, Operations, Technology, Compliance, Legal;

o   Ability to write functional requirements for interpretation by data analysts and developers.
