The International Corporate Volunteer program, or V.I.E (Volontariat International en Entreprise), is your chance to embark upon an adventure, both personal and professional in equal measure, and discover a profession in a new country.

The best path towards a permanent contract

A V.I.E mission offers you 12 to 24 highly formative months on an international team – an extremely high-value experience that can lead to a permanent contract either on-site or elsewhere!

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Must not having already completed a VIE;
Be a citizen of one of the member states of the European Economic Area;
Be a French tax resident;
Be between 18 and 28 years old;
Hold a Master’s degree (Master 2);
Speak English fluently (minimum B2 level);
Must not hold a permanent contract (CDI) with Societe Generale.

Margaux and her experience in VIE program

Hello, my name is Margaux, and I’m Data Scientist at Societe Generale.
I started my studies with preparatory classes, followed by an engineering school in Paris, and finally a master’s degree in data science and deep learning at the École Polytechnique. I joined the Group in April 2022 for my end-of-studies internship and the following year, I left for New York on a VIE program.
Moving to the United States was a big leap for me, coming from a small town in Haute-Savoie (France), but very quickly I loved the experience and the energy of this city.
Once there, the Business France network was a real asset—it allowed me to meet other VIEs from other European companies in New York, and it gave me a solid point of reference upon arriving in such a big city. At work, integration was also made easier thanks to welcoming teams and a group of Societe Generale VIEs already on site. We used to meet up during lunchtime and there was a strong sense of community among French people in New York.

Being detached from my Parisian team gave me more responsibilities and allowed me to interact directly with business teams. It was a very exciting challenge which helped me grow, meet new people, and of course, improve my English. A funny anecdote was the day when my team and I were invited to the Nasdaq closing ceremony—the New York Stock Exchange—for the market close. The tradition there is to take a photo of the team, company, or organization closing the market and display it on their tower until the next day. Their tower is right in the middle of Times Square, so our photo was displayed for an entire evening in Times Square!

After my VIE, I was hired as a Data Scientist within the data lab of the Inspection and Audit department in Paris. So it’s a completely different atmosphere. Previously, I used to do research on very specific topics. Now, it’s a much more a business-oriented approach. It’s great because it gives me an overview of the bank and its challenges.

So I highly recommend you to go on a VIE assignment because it’s an amazing experience when you're young. You travel, meet wonderful people, you learn to work in a different culture and sometimes in a different language. It helps you to get to know others and yourself better. So really, it was super cool. So I have only one thing to say to you: go for it!

Recruitment process

Apply for a V.I.E offer

After checking that you are fully eligible for V.I.E, send your application for an offer on our site.

Online tests

If your application is been accepted by the recruitment teams, you will be asked to complete some online tests (English test, logic test and so on).

Manager interview

Once you have passed your tests, you have an interview with the manager, often on Skype. It is a fit? Then you will be made an offer.

Administrative formalities

The recruitment teams support you in your administrative formalities with Business France, the French agency for business development abroad that manages V.I.Es.

Depart on assignment

With your visa in your pocket (if required) and your contract signed, off you go on your assignment abroad, for integration into the Societe Generale teams!
