Consultant Expert (Market Data Vendor Manager) - Role Description

Overall understanding of Market Data Ops with expertise in negotiating, managing commercials of market data contracts and managing Vendor & Business relationships. Its important to have the ability to understand nature of the business, their market data service requirements, market data services\products, alternates available in the market and accordingly facilitate in onboarding appropriate market data services for use in-line with the policies\procedures in-place.

To better serve our internal clients, SG GTS Market Data team is seeking to recruit a Market Data Commercial specialist, with previous experience in Market Data at a financial institution or at a vendor.

Key Objectives:

  1. Manage commercial and contractual relationships with a defined portfolio of market data vendors (focus would be on the smaller value contracts – global scope).
  2. Negotiate contract renewals in a timely manner & assess the requests for new market data services expressed by the business, collaborating with end users, desk heads, referential teams, etc.; challenge the business as appropriate and make recommendations with cost-effective solutions. Could include local, multi-site and global contracts
  3. Become the identified expert point of contact for market data licensing and vendor management for the vendors in scope
  4. Assess and manage the overall relationship with the vendors in scope & Challenge Vendors’ commercial strategy where necessary
  5. Establish and develop relationships with business lines, managers and users to properly understand their requirements and constraints - and adapt the negotiation strategy and Market Data licensing accordingly to deliver services at an optimum cost.
  6. Proactively provide expert input on both specific market data services and the dynamics of the market data industry to guide internal clients in their choices
  7. Provide the appropriate level of internal communication and reporting to ensure that the business has good visibility on achievements, opportunities and potential risks.
  8. Collaborate within Market Data teams regionally & globally to align with overall team’s strategy and to deliver the team’s objectives.
  9. Work with Market Data admin team (Inventory & Invoicing Teams) on Admin topics such as, providing timely information (Users, Allocations etc.,) for Inventory set-up in MDM and Invoicing\Billing management

    Competencies:

    -          Knowledge of Overall Market Data Operations and understanding of activities within CIB

    -          Strong Understanding of Market Data Contracts, Workflows’, Legal terms & conditions and ability to assess the implications of the same on the business & the organization

    -          Ability to work in a global team – collaborate locally and globally (coordination with VMs / VM managers in the regions, Business Analysts, Admin Teams etc)

    -          Ability to coordinate interaction with legal teams if necessary (review of legal clauses, addition of regulatory clauses on Financial Regulation, GDPR, DORA)

    -          Capacity to learn and understand services being subscribed and why they are being used

    -          Ability to challenge vendors on their pricing – i.e. there isn’t always a price list, need to be ‘brave enough’ to push back / ask for a discount / etc.

    -          Good communication skills – ability to express clearly and concisely – within the team, with internal clients, with vendors.  Written skills particularly important.

    -          Well organised and methodical

    -          Ability to manage expectations

    -          Ability to ‘think outside the box’ – i.e. not necessary only follow a defined procedure

    -          Understanding of\Exposure to Tools used within Market Data line of business such as Calero MDM, DACS, Bloomberg Online Portal can be an advantage
