Control Testing Officer - Quality Control (Compliance Officer)
Responsibilities
The Compliance Risk Management Department contributes to the sustainable growth of the Société Générale group through its expertise, understanding of risks, and risk management techniques. The department’s mission is to independently analyze, assess, manage, and monitor risk-taking activities with the objective of achieving, together with the first line-of-defense, the best possible outcome for the bank. The department oversees the enterprise, strategic, credit, market, liquidity, operational, model, and other risks of the corporate and investment banking business activities.
ABOUT THE JOB:
The Control Assessment and Testing (CTL) group sits within Société Générale in the U.S. (“SGUS”) Compliance and RISQ and operates as part of the 2nd Line of Defense within a “Three Lines of Defense” model. CTL is a key component of the SGUS risk management program and provides risk-based independent testing of controls related to the management of compliance and operational risks across business lines, support units (i.e., compliance, information technology, operations, human resources, data office, etc.) and legal entities.
The primary objective of the CTL Testing team is to evaluate policies, procedures, and internal controls to assess whether they are reasonably designed and in the case of transaction testing, that controls are working as intended to ensure SGUS activities comply with applicable Laws, Rules, and Regulations
What will be your DAY-TO-DAY?
The Control Testing Officer overseeing the Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA) program will be part of the Compliance and RISQ Control Testing team leading Regulatory risk testing covering Operational based Laws, Rules, and Regulations (LRRs). The Control Testing officer is expected to have a high degree of independence and autonomy. The candidate will also act as the lead in covering quality control and quality assurance reviews for the CTL team. Responsibilities will include:
· Reviewing workpapers and final reports pertaining to a review that is subject to QC to ensure they adhere to the Compliance & Risk CTL Testing & Monitoring Procedures;
· Identifying material observations that require actions to be taken by the testing team, following up on the actions, validating that the testing team has completed the agreed upon action plans by due date, and dispose all action plans in the QC checklists;
· Performing sample reviews of Corrective Action Validation (CAP) Memos and supporting documents pertaining to CAPs that are selected for QC to ensure they adhere to the CTL Testing Procedures;
· Documenting QC sample selection rationale in Sample Rationale Memos;
· Providing feedback to the testing team on observations identified during the QC process;
· Completing QC scores for each QC checklist and finalizing the QC checklists by the due dates;
· Assisting with MIS reporting on quarterly QC results;
· Assisting with Quality Assurance (QA) process for in-flight reviews
· Assisting with defining training to the CTL Testing team based on the observations noted by QC.
· Assisting with monthly and quarterly metrics calculation, validation, and reporting.
Profile required
Skills and Qualifications:
Must Have:
- 5-7 years’ experience in Internal or External Audit, or Control testing required.
- 3-5 years’ experience in the financial services firm.
- Ability to communicate well across all levels of an organization.
- Experience in execution and/or development of a Quality Control Program within an Audit group or 2nd Line of Defense or Control Testing group is a plus.
- Demonstrate a good understanding of banking and brokerage products, and operational processes with a focus on testing Laws, Rules, and Regulations.
- Understand the business and applicability of regulations to identify key risk areas for the review and focus on the key areas for testing.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills (capable of handling multiple, simultaneous, and various ad-hoc requests).
- Openness to new ideas and suggestions and able to propose new ideas and enhancements; know when to escalate challenges.
- Ability to prioritize and work in a dynamic, deadline-focused environment.
Desired / Plus:
· Work experience in relevant business or risk management function within corporate/investment bank.
· Good working knowledge of audit principles
· Certifications/licenses CIA, CPA, CFA, FRM, Series 7
LANGUAGE:
Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing, is a requirement as the person in this position will need to collaborate regularly with colleagues and partners in the United States.
