Responsibilities

Establish a Strong Sales & Marketing / Bridging Function

  • Lead the commercialization of QIS (Quantitative Investment Strategies), structured funds, PO (principal‑protected / principal‑optimized) funds, and other relevant solutions for the Japanese market, with a particular focus on achieving success through third‑party distribution channels.
  • As a sales professional, develop strategies for client and distributor engagement, leverage all internal relationships to execute these strategies, and—acting as a highly specialized sales resource—work closely with Structuring and Trading teams to identify latent client needs and develop new market opportunities. Convert these needs into actionable product ideas with speed and precision, and accelerate adoption among investors and distributors.

Enhance Localization & Client Engagement

  • Lead the creation of Japanese‑language pitch books, marketing materials, and client-facing documents.
  • Strengthen distribution coverage across retail channels (securities firms, banks, trust banks, regional financial institutions), high‑net‑worth (HNW) clients, and institutional investors.
  • Build trust with investors, distributors, asset managers—both at the management level and among frontline professionals.

Maximize Platform Value

  • Collaborate with global QIS, Trading, and Engineering teams to introduce market‑relevant and implementable strategies.
  • Maintain high standards of governance, conduct, and suitability with transparent and disciplined processes.

Market Intelligence: 

  • Knows market, the needs of each client (end clients, distributors, asset managers, and all of business partners) segment, what competitors do in terms of products - Feedback the information to management, ENG/Structuring team and trading to improve capabilities of the platform.

Sales effort:

  • Systematically cold-calls new prospects and visit a large number of clients/prospects during the year, reacts swiftly when an opportunity arises, assumes a large workload

Reporting and Transparency:

  • Reports meeting to different parties involved, enter information on client and meeting into IC or any other CMU tools

Compliance:

  • Refers to Sales Handbook and avoid entering into any discussion or transaction that could lead to a long-term liability for Societe Generale (“SG”). Understand local rules and regulations of his market(s) and complies with all internal guidelines pre- and post-trade (notably but obviously not only such as KYC, credit pre-trade check in Riskweb tool, suitability check and process, appropriate and validated marketing documents by relevant stakeholders including Compliance department, appropriate legal documentation and regulatory requirements, SG internal execution and trading standards, margin policy, CVA and RAROC guideline, timely and appropriate booking of transactions, pre- and final confirmation etc...), but also all the other general business guidelines such as gift and entertainment policy, information security guidelines and restrictions versus external or internal communication (especially when dealing with any confidential or private information, Chinese walled transactions, GILT listed deals…) etc… , and always refers/escalate all potential issues/internal or external incidents to management, COO or Compliance

Post-trade coordination:

  • Cooperates with support functions – is not mentioned as a problem maker by the various departments (Middle Office, Back Office, Legal etc), Properly input deals in IT systems, in an exhaustive manner, pays particular attention to the correctness of term sheets and the credit processes (IFlows etc) – validate quickly Final Terms when needed

Major Accountabilities/Principal Responsibilities:

Duties

A. Client Coverage & Education

  • Build and deepen relationships with retail distributors, asset managers, securities firms, lifers, leading banks, trust banks, regional banks, and HNW channels.
  • Provide market insights, structure training, and product education to enhance client understanding and engagement.

B. Origination Support & Product Development

  • Work with Structuring, Trading, and Engineering to design strategies suited for Japan, including: 
    O Multi-asset or equity, rates, fx, commodity and credit based QIS
    O Hedging strategies, Carry Strategies, VT strategies, downside protection overlays, covered call structures.
    O Capital Guaranteed Products, Delta-1 & leveraged Products, overlay strategies, Fund Wrapper, SPV Wrapper.
  • Support fund setup processes with distributors and asset managers (strategy specifications, rulebook alignment, product configuration, and timeline coordination).

C. Product Marketing & Distribution

  • Lead the commercialization and distribution of QIS, Structured Funds, PO/PP structures, repacks, and note-based products.
  • Independently create Japanese-language pitch decks, client materials, training documents, and FAQs for distributors.
  • Join client meetings as the product expert sales, delivering clear explanations and handling technical questions.
  • Explain mechanics of QIS strategies including VT, deleveraging, volatility averaging, cost components, backtest interpretation, and option pricing factors.

D. Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Serve as the internal translator between client needs, product design, and sales execution, reducing organizational silos.
  • Contribute to pipeline management, competitive analysis, and transparent activity reporting.
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to junior staff where appropriate.

E. Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure full compliance with product governance, suitability, disclosure standards, and sales practices.
  • Proactively escalate grey area issues to Legal and Compliance.
  • Follow SG policies regarding KYC, documentation (ISDA/CSA/GMRA when applicable), and recording/reporting requirements.

Profile required

Applicant Eligibility:

  • Possesses deep practical knowledge of Japanese financial product distribution practices, as well as advanced expertise in all relevant laws, regulations, and guidelines. This includes a thorough understanding of the Financial Instruments and Exchange Act, Investment Trust Act, suitability and distribution regulations, and disclosure standards.
  • Holds advanced product expertise across Cross‑Asset areas—derivatives, structured derivatives, QIS, structured funds, and publicly offered PO funds—and is able to independently propose solutions as a subject‑matter expert. In addition, demonstrates a deep understanding of Japanese investor behavior, investment constraints, and risk tolerance characteristics.
  • Exhibits strong autonomy as a sales professional, with a proven track record of independently developing new clients—particularly distributors and asset managers—identifying their needs, and converting opportunities into sustained business and transactions. Able to build and maintain long‑term client relationships.
  • Has a proven track record in marketing or distributing QIS and/or structured products, and possesses the technical capability to clearly explain complex product mechanics (including VT, deleveraging, volatility averaging, option pricing drivers, and cost components).
  • Able to collaborate effectively and at a high standard with Structuring, Trading, Engineering, and Sales teams.
  • Must be capable of functioning as a “bridge,” accurately translating client needs into executable product designs.
  • Demonstrates exceptional presentation, documentation, and relationship‑building strong sales skills in Japanese, along with the ability to conduct business communication in English (meetings, emails, and document preparation) without difficulty.

Key Skill Areas & knowledge Required:

Sales & Marketing

  • Proven ability to originate new clients (esp. distributors and asset managers) and convert needs into sustainable business.
  • Ability to independently produce localized Japanese materials and high‑quality presentation documents.
  • Strong communication skills in both Japanese (native‑level) and English (business level).

Client & Market Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of Japanese financial product distribution and relevant regulations (FIEA, Investment Trust Act, suitability, disclosure rules).
  • Experience with retail distributors, asset managers, securities/trust banks, regional banks, and HNW channels.
  • Ability to build deep, trust‑based client relationships at both working and management levels (native‑level Japanese).
  • Understanding of client financials, risk profiles, regulatory and accounting considerations (esp. CFI clients).

Product Expertise

  • Deep knowledge of Cross‑Asset solutions: derivatives, structured derivatives, QIS, structured funds, PO/PP structures.
  • Understanding of QIS mechanics (VT, deleveraging, vol‑averaging, cost components, backtests).
  • Familiarity with repack/note structures (bond + option), capital guaranteed wrappers, delta‑one, leveraged and overlay structures.
  • Practical understanding of pricing factors (volatility, hedging cost, rates, credit spreads).
  • Knowledge of transaction booking processes.

Leadership & Teamwork

  • Ability to act as a bridge across Structuring, Trading, Engineering, and Sales, reducing organizational silos.
  • High integrity, transparency, and strong conduct mindset.
  • Capable of supporting and elevating team culture; mentoring junior staff when required.
