Responsibilities
Role Summary
We are currently looking for a Director, Debt Capital Markets (“DCM”), Japan to join us to engage in offshore bond origination (primarily in EUR and USD). This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and growing team within a fast-paced, results focused, global organisation with strong growth ambitions for the Japan DCM business. The successful candidate will be responsible for client management, originating, and executing transactions for our Japanese FI and Corporate issuers, and will have the opportunity to build close relationships with the teams onshore and within the organisation more broadly on a regional and global basis.
The DCM team is a part of the Investment Banking Division which sits within the broader GLBA unit of Societe Generale. The team is responsible for addressing borrowers’ needs in terms of raising and managing capital in the debt capital markets. The client base for DCM includes corporate borrowers, financial institutions, public sector, and sovereigns globally.
In terms of debt origination, DCM’s activity covers issuance of bonds across the capital structure, including senior and subordinated debt, covered bonds, green, sustainable, and sustainability-linked, hybrid capital and liability management advisory. DCM’s activity also covers transaction management advisory, in addition to balance sheet advisory. We adopt a solutions-based approach to advising our clients and where relevant we collaborate closely with ratings advisory, debt solutions, sustainable finance, and derivative solutions teams to deliver a complete service to the borrower.
Your Key Contributions:
The successful candidate will play a critical role in enabling the team to provide:
- Client management: Service as a primary point of contact for DCM clients in Japan. Managing a broad range of products, helping define client strategies, and collaborating with internal stakeholders to support initiatives for both new and existing clients.
- Client advisory: Providing clear, informed, and solution-oriented advice to clients, ensuring high standards of service and insight
- Transaction origination: Contributing to the origination of transactions through active participation in client discussions, pitches and structuring. Supporting the team by conducting research, gathering market intelligence, preparing marketing materials, and coordinating follow-up across client workstreams.
- Transaction execution: Taking a lead role in execution of new transactions. Coordinating effectively with internal partners – including syndicate, sales, legal, middle office and others.
The division operates in global environment, with teams located across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and the United States, offering opportunities for collaboration with colleagues from diverse regions and background.

Profile Requirements:
Qualifications, Experience & Knowledge Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. business, commerce, law, engineering or science) or equivalent practical experience
- At least 7-10 years of experience in debt capital markets origination
- Experience originating and executing offshore bonds for corporate or financial institutions borrowers, particularly in EUR and USD
Familiarity with green/social bonds, liability management, corporate hybrids, and financial institution products (e.g. covered bonds, capital instruments) - Understanding of ratings methodologies, bank regulatory frameworks and/or balance sheet management (an advantage, but not required)
- Ability to create well-structured, and client-focused pitch materials
- Strong risk awareness, with the ability to consider conduct, reputational, financial and other relevant risks
- Ability to operate in alignment with organisational values, code of conduct, and regulatory requirements
- Fluency in Japanese and English (spoken and written)
