Responsibilities

Major Accountabilities/Principal Responsibilities:

The Energy + business line in Asia-Pacific is responsible for the origination and execution of structured and project finance debt for clients and large projects in the Energy sector in Asia-Pacific including Power (Thermal, Renewable, Nuclear and related infrastructure), Oil & Gas (e.g. Downstream LNG, Petrochemicals, Pipelines and Refining) and new energy transition technologies such as  hydrogen, green ammonia, methanol & SAF, batteries storage, CCS, DAC, and other new areas in the energy sector. The clients include owners, developers and investors in renewable energy, power and waste to energy projects, major energy utilities including regulated and non-regulated energy utilities, local and international owners in downstream oil & gas and petrochemical industries and energy shippers including gas pipelines. Other key clients include financial, institutional, pension & hedge funds who invest into the Energy sector.

The Director, Energy + Group, Singapore will be responsible for:

  • Contributing directly to the business across the Asia region of the global Energy + Group, consistent with its strategy.
  • Being located in Singapore, the role includes a particular focus upon South and Southeast Asia clients and projects, however, there is wide scope to work across Asia including origination & execution of new mandates alongside colleagues based in Hong Kong, India, Japan and Taiwan. There will also be cross collaboration with the Sydney EPG team which also forms part of the APAC EPG team.
  • Leading the origination and execution of advisory & lending mandates to arrange tailor-made finance transactions for clients.
  • Introducing other internal departments to clients or transactions (i.e. cross-sales).

As such, they will focus on:

  • Maintaining and building relationships with target clients.
  • Originating advisory and lead arranging roles in the Energy sector.
  • For lending transactions focus upon “originating to distribute” i.e. bring a strong loan distribution & sales focus
  • Overseeing the effective and responsible execution of advisory and arranging mandates in accordance with business line procedures, all relevant compliance practices and other internal requirements. 
  • The Energy + Group in Asia will assist (including in Singapore and also remotely from other office locations in Asia-Pacific) with the execution tasks for transactions. The Director Energy + Singapore will take particular care to ensure compliance with Singapore country rules, regulations, procedures, KYC, compliance and anti-fraud detection & identification processes
  • Other main tasks will include the determination and negotiation of financing terms & conditions, the management of the due diligence process, reviewing and providing senior input into credit applications, term sheet drafting and preparation of offers and agreements, negotiating and executing loan documentation assisted by external and/or internal lawyers.
  • Coordinating and working jointly with teams internally in the primary and/or secondary distribution of loans in accordance with the agreed strategy.   
  • Coordinating & working jointly with teams who hold responsibility for the portfolio management of the loans including coordination with the middle office and front office client portfolio team.   
  • Monitoring and providing follow-up in the client relationship with the client coverage managers.
  • Maintaining a thorough knowledge of developments and current trends in the Asia-Pacific energy sector.
  • Maintaining a strong personal network of industry, client and peer contacts.
  • Playing an active role in the on-the-job training and development of the relevant business line’s staff located in Singapore & offshore where relevant

Profile required

Experience & Knowledge: 

  • Experience originating & executing limited recourse senior debt advisory assignments for greenfield and brownfield projects
  • Ability to originate innovative and more complex transactions or solutions including unique structures or innovative risk profiles which generate higher than normal income & returns (i.e. innovative transactions)
  • Understanding of the loan, export credit agency and bond markets, their dynamics and the related instruments, including credit and rates derivatives to propose relevant financing solutions
  • Established network of industry contacts
  • Capacity to generate pitch material that is clear, structured, compelling, and comprehensive in addressing clients’ needs
  • Capacity to understand and manage risks (credit, conduct, reputational, financial, etc.) for the business line and the organization and act responsibly in line with SG Group Values, Code of Conduct, and other applicable rules & regulations
