Director, Financing & Advisory with major in energy transition, infrastructure, and TMT
Responsibilities
The Director, Financing & Advisory Group (FNA), based in Seoul will be responsible for:
- Contributing directly to the business in South Korea for FNA, consistent with its strategy.
- Being located in Seoul, the role includes a particular focus upon projects in South Korea especially those contributing to i) the wider energy transition theme across asset classes in line with the Bank's global strategy to combat climate change and decarbonization, ii) the development of infrastructure and digital assets franchise in South Korea, iii) the development of other sector teams as required from time to time. The candidate will work closely with Singapore, Hongkong and Sydney based FNA teams
- Leading the origination and execution of mandates to arrange tailor-made finance transactions for clients keeping both an origination as well as distribution mindset
- Introducing other internal departments to clients or transactions (i.e. cross-sales).
- Working closely with Coverage team in scoping new business opportunities across existing and potential clients
- Thought leadership to understand emerging trends in these sectors and proactively designing new ideas and solutions internally and pitching to clients
- Bringing the Global and regional expertise of the related business lines to South Korean clients
- Driving new initiatives to grow the South Korean franchise across these sectors
- Collaborate effectively with various business lines, coverage and IBD in Origination, Distribution and Portfolio Management team for end-to-end deal closure
As such, they will focus on:
- Maintaining and building relationships with target clients.
- Originating advisory and lead arranging roles in FNA sectors with a priority in energy, infrastructure and TMT sectors.
- Overseeing the effective and responsible execution of advisory and arranging mandates in accordance with business line procedures, all relevant compliance practices and other internal requirements.
- The FNA Group in APAC will assist (often remotely or from time to time in person) with the execution tasks for transactions in South Korea, however the Director NAT Seoul will take particular care to ensure compliance with local South Korea country rules, regulations, procedures, KYC, compliance and anti-fraud detection & identification processes.
- Other main tasks will include the determination and negotiation of financing terms & conditions, the management of the due diligence process, reviewing and providing senior input into credit applications, term sheet drafting and preparation of offers and agreements, negotiating and executing loan documentation assisted by external and/or internal lawyers.
- Coordinating and working jointly with teams internally in the primary and/or secondary distribution of loans in accordance with the agreed strategy.
- Monitoring and providing follow-up in the client relationship and providing business line input in respect of the monitoring of transactions and their documented terms and conditions throughout the life of transactions (including the annual review) by the middle office.
- Maintaining a thorough knowledge of developments and current trends in the South Korean market in relation to the sectors targeted.
- Maintaining a strong personal network of industry, client and peer contacts.
- Playing an active role in the on-the-job training and development of the business line's junior staff located in South Korea, and in other regional platforms such as HK, Singapore and Sydney.
Profile required
Academic Background (degree and major)
- Graduation / post-graduation in a related field
Skills & Competencies required:
- Hands-on solid experience in the field
- Understanding of the loan, export credit agency and bond markets, their dynamics and the related instruments, including credit and rates derivatives to propose relevant financing solutions
- Solid base of industry knowledge, and themes in key sectors of focus such as energy transition, infrastructure and TMT
- Established network of industry contacts
- Capacity to generate pitch material that is clear, structured, compelling, and comprehensive in addressing clients' needs
- Capacity to understand and manage risks (credit, conduct, reputational, financial, etc.) for the business line and the organization and act responsibly in line with SG Group Values, Code of Conduct, and other applicable rules & regulations
- Solid experience in structured finance and financial advisory
- Ability to build and maintain trusted client relationships in a senior role
- Commercial acumen and persistence in addressing clients' needs
- Proactive approach to develop business adapted to clients' and markets' needs
- Ability to develop new client base, advisory, and products in line with SG Group priorities and strategy
- Experience of working (including remotely) with people with diverse, international backgrounds
- Ability to manage self and juniors in prioritizing tasks and managing competing deadlines
- Ability to deliver coherent messages to team members and other stakeholders
- Able to communicate effectively in English and Korean

External: clients, prospects and external advisors (e.g. legal counsel, insurance, accounting & tax, market, technical and financial model) plus ECA’s & multi-laterals where relevant

The Financing & Advisory Group at Societe Generale provides a full range of finance and advisory services for its clients through 8 sector teams: Energy+ group, Battery, Mining & Industries, Trade and Sustainable Commodity Finance, Infrastructure Finance, TMT, Real Estate, Development & Structure Export Finance, Sustainable Transportation Solutions.
The provision of financial advisory services and lending in the context of energy transition and digitalization is key development focus. There is also a strong focus on using both new and existing distribution channels. The team also works closely with other business lines on joint mandates to offer integrated services.
The Financing & Advisory business line in Asia-Pacific is responsible for the origination and execution of tailor-made structured debt and advisory (including project finance, asset finance and ECA finance) for clients and large projects across asset classes in Asia-Pacific including renewables, energy transition new technologies as well as Battery, mining & Industries, Infrastructure, digital assets, Real Estate and transportation with or without ECA involvement. The clients include owners, developers and investors (Corporate, Financial sponsors and FIs) in these asset classes.
