Responsibilities

The risk professional sought for this position leads the Risk Appetite and Assessment (RAA) team being part of the SG AMER Enterprise Risk Management Team, reporting to the Head of Enterprise Risk Management, who is located in New York.

Day to day responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Manage the "Risk Appetite and Assessment" team, currently composed of 5 employees.
  • Risk Appetite and Assessment:
    • Maintain and enhance the Risk Appetite Statement for SGUS and manage the annual review, reporting, and escalations for the US and oversee the governance for other Risk Appetite Statements within the Americas region.
    • Manage the enterprise-wide risk identification program, partnering with 2LOD, reporting on material risks and the adherence to risk management approach and limits to senior leadership, management, and the Board’s U.S. Risk Committee.
    • Develop and maintain an Enterprise level analytics / Key Risk Indicators program to facilitate independent assessment and challenge.
    • Manage the continued maturity and implementation of the Enterprise-Wide Stress Testing program in alignment with FRB SR 12-7.
  • Governance and processes:
    • Establish and oversee holistic processes to effectively challenge business heads on all types of risk and dialog through governance. Partner across Risk to strengthen 1LOD engagement through effective challenge to material risks, KRIs, and qualitative assessments.
    • Oversee the development and implementation of strategies and policies for Enterprise-wide stress testing, Risk Identification and Assessment, Risk Rating methodologies, and Key Risk monitoring. 
    • Coordinate with, and maintain minimum standards for, 2LOD enterprise level risk committees across the Americas. Manage the Enterprise Risk Committee and escalation reporting to senior management and the Board’s U.S. Risk Committee.
  • Act as 2LOD oversight for Regulation QQ (Resolution Plans 12 C.F.R 243 and 381), Regulation YY (Home Capital Stress Testing for FBOs 12 C.F.R 158).
  • Participate in the management of Business and Strategic Risks, and in the effective challenge of the bank’s strategic planning.
  • Oversee the continued improvement of risk management processes, tools, and practices.
  • Promote a strong risk culture and maintain an effective and independent risk management framework by working in partnership with all areas of the firm.
  • Manage the effectiveness of the team to meet business and regulatory requirements in a cost-effective manner.
  • Support overarching initiatives such as the remediation of independent findings (Regulatory, Testing, Audit).
  • Assist in efforts to raise self-identified issues and the remediation of existing issues.
  • Contribute to risk monitoring efforts including enhancement, development, utilization of risk analytics.
  • Support transversal topics such as regulatory exams, change-the-bank activities, systems design, and presentations to senior management both in SG AMER and at Head Office level.

The Risk Management Department contributes to the sustainable growth of the Societe Generale group through its expertise, understanding of risks, and risk management techniques. The department’s mission is to independently analyze, assess, manage and monitor risk-taking activities with the objective of achieving, together with the first line-of-defense, the best possible outcome for the bank.  The department oversees the enterprise, strategic, credit, market, liquidity, operational, model, and other risks of the corporate and investment banking business activities.

The Enterprise Risk Management function is responsible for identifying, measuring, assessing, monitoring, controlling, and reporting on all risks facing SG AMER. Enterprise risk management is a pro-active, continuous approach to risk management that provides SG AMER with a comprehensive, integrated view of its risks and enables management of risks across its operations consistently and in line with its business and strategic objectives.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Must Have:

  • Ideal candidate will have 15+ years’ experience in a relevant role;
  • Experience with Strategic Risk, Enterprise Risk Identification and Assessment, management of Enterprise level Risk Committees with ability to clearly communicate outcomes/proposals to management.
  • Experience supporting one or more risk type e.g., credit, operational, market, liquidity risk, and respective underlying products;
  • Experience delivering compelling, well-structured presentations, synthesizing information to produce executive or board level content requisite of the audience;
  • Master’s degree or equivalent in risk/management discipline; 
  • Fluent written and spoken English.
  • Deep knowledge in risk management concepts and measurement techniques.
  • Strong understanding of quantitative concepts and practices.
  • Understanding of key activities linked to a financial institution operating a large capital markets activity, inclusive of trading portfolios and lending activities in the Americas.
  • Strong MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); strong capability in cross-discipline data analytics.
  • Strong presentation and excellent oral / written communication and influencing skills; proven experience in delivering strong, well-structured presentations for senior leadership.
  • Effective interpersonal and influencing skills.
  • Ability to interact with business lines, management, and support functions and to provide effective challenge to members of business line and of risk management across the organization.
  • Ability to express convictions and make decisions with courage
  • Effective problem-solving, analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to achieve results in a pressurized environment and/or working to tight deadlines.
  • Quick learner, curiosity, resourcefulness, and self-starter with a hands-on approach.

COMPENSATION & SALARY RANGE:

Base salary range does not include overtime pay, bonus and/or other benefits, where applicable. Actual base salary offer will vary based on skills and experience.
