Responsibilities

Bernstein Autonomous is seeking exceptional talent to join one of Asia's premier Equity Research teams. We are hiring a full-time Research Associate for our China Banks team, led by Charlene Chu. Our teams are deliberately lean — typically two to three professionals — so you will carry genuine responsibility from day one and make a direct, meaningful impact on the quality and direction of our work.

  • Analyze and forecast performance across Chinese banks and other financial institutions
  • Build and maintain financial and econometric models that incorporate evolving business and macro conditions
  • Monitor financial markets for early signs of macro-financial stress
  • Conduct deep-dive research into specific topics within the banking sector and China's broader macro-financial system
  • Contribute to the team's macroeconomic coverage of China
  • Perform regular channel checks and actively engage in relevant industry events in China
  • Write clear, well-reasoned research reports that communicate findings and investment views to clients
  • Present published research to external and internal clients through presentations, meetings, and calls
  • Fulfill bespoke client research requests within Compliance and marketing guidelines

Profile required

Qualifications:

  • Relevant bachelor/master’s degree in Finance, Economics, or Accounting
  • 2-5 years of experience researching Chinese banks and financial institutions is preferred
  • Experienced professionals may be considered as Senior Research Associates

Skills & attributes:

  • Deep knowledge of Chinese banks and the broader financial sector landscape in China
  • Strong financial modeling skills
  • Proficiency in relevant data platforms, including CEIC, Wind, and Bloomberg
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
  • Intellectually rigorous and genuinely curious, with the ability to generate original, innovative ideas
  • Highly organized, with the ability to manage competing priorities and adapt in a fast-moving research environment
  • Strong written and spoken English at a business-professional level
  • Business-level Mandarin proficiency required; native fluency preferred
