Responsibilities

In the Natural Resources & Infrastructure (NAT) team, we provide finance and advisory finance to energy projects, infrastructure projects, mining project and commodity finance. The team is based in New York and divided in 4 main entities:

Energy+:
This business line provides capital raising and advisory expertise to current or prospective clients operating within the power and energy sectors, including petrochemicals, bio-fuels, utilities, and renewable energies. Energy+ primarily focuses on expanding opportunities with entities that maintain energy-related operations in the western hemisphere.

Trade Commodity & Finance:
This business line originate structured transactions based on the underlying commodities (flows or assets) with clients of SGCIB that are active in the commodities sector and provide client coverage and investment banking services on selected names in the commodities sector including producers, processors, marketers, and traders. Clients range from small and medium sized regional and local niche players to large multi-national, multi-commodity trading companies. Products offered are primarily loans and letters of credit.

Mining & Metals Finance:
The Metal & Mining Finance team provide financing for the metals & mining sector from upstream mines to transformation or large and small clients and their projects.

Infrastructure Finance:
The Infrastructure activity offers a broad range of products to its clients, whether corporate or public, including capital-raising, risk management as well advisory services. Infrastructure deals are primarily in the Transportation, Public Services, Datacenter and Environmental sectors with a major focus in financing construction of highways, bridges and other infrastructure projects. Products offered are primarily loans and leases.

In addition to our core project finance advisory and lending business, we can support clients with a full spectrum of capital solutions through the wider Global Banking and Investor Services division drawing on colleagues’ experience in M&A, Equity Capital Markets, Private Placements, Debt Capital Markets, and Project Bonds.

The role of the position of Analyst, in the Natural Resources Team, is to assist in the origination and execution of transaction within the NAT scope.

Transaction support to the relevant deal team leader on Advisory and Arranging mandates, to includes:

  • Assume primary responsibility for cash flow modelling, ensuring accuracy and reliability of model output and sensitivities scenarios
  • Review and structuring of project documentation
  • Review of due diligence reports
  • Credit analysis and preparation of credit applications
  • Preparation of presentations to clients and other banks
  • Manage admin requirements including internal pricing, client on-boarding, permanent supervision etc.

Origination and marketing support including:

  • Research
  • Participate in the development of marketing pitches and the preparation of indicative term sheets and proposals
  • Participate in the development and maintenance of client relationship i.e. visiting client with senior bankers to deliver pitches
  • Liaise with other banks to explain deal structures and aid in sell down and syndication of loans
  • Keep up with industry trends

General support, as required, within Natural Resources, including contribution to effective teamwork within the global team and with other groups in the bank. The Analyst will be during its first years exposed to the 4 business lines within a small pool of juniors, and then will be permanently affected to a team.

Profile required

Skills and experience of a successful candidate:

  • Some experience in a related field such as banking, infrastructure, mining or in the energy industry
  • Excellent analytical and numerical skills most likely honed within a scientific-based degree such as Physics, Engineering, or Economics
  • Excel fluency and financial modelling capacity
  • Excellent writing, communication and presentation skills in English
  • Strong interest in the energy industry
  • High level of interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work accurately and efficiently under pressure
  • Cashflow or valuation modelling experience
  • 0-1 years of experience within the Project Finance or Investment Banking space

Certifications:

  • Series 63, 79 and SIE. If not already obtained, to be completed within 5-months of hire.

COMPENSATION & SALARY RANGE:

Base salary range does not include overtime pay, bonus and/or other benefits, where applicable. Actual base salary offer will vary based on skills and experience.
