Responsibilities

This role forms a critical component of Bernstein’s institutional equities franchise in Japan, serving as the primary interface between the firm and our buy-side clients, including hedge funds, asset managers, sovereign wealth funds and family offices. The primary responsibilities of this position include:

  • Develop and maintain high-value relationships with institutional clients, through regular communication including phone calls, in-person meetings and electronic messages.
  • Effectively distribute Bernstein’s proprietary research, market insights, trading ideas and corporate access events, with a particular focus on the Japan market.
  • Create and deliver tailored investment recommendations utilising Bernstein’s research views, macroeconomic insights and client feedback in a clear and persuasive manner.
  • Collaborate closely with Research, Trading and Corporate Access to ensure timely dissemination of ideas, events and execution opportunities.
  • Monitor market developments, client activity and the competitive landscape to identify commercial opportunities and provide actionable commentary.
  • Support cross selling initiatives of Bernstein / Société Générale’s broader product suite.
  • Contribute to the preparation of client presentations, pitch materials and business development initiatives.
  • Remain up to date on regulatory changes, compliance best-practices and changing client needs.

Profile required

Our Institutional Sales typically possess the following:

  • Strong understanding of Japan equity markets 
  • Relevant institutional sales experience for 5-12 years
  • Fluency in English and Japanese 
  • Must hold all necessary JSDA certifications
  • Intermediate Excel and PowerPoint skill
  • Excellent communication skills; both written and verbal
  • Ability to work pro-actively, multi task and work to tight deadlines in a fast paced changing environment

Department Description

We are seeking a highly motivated VP/Director level Japan Equity sales to join our Institutional Equity Sales team. This is a critical execution-focused role, working directly with our exiting sales team in Tokyo and APAC to manage and expand our footprint within the Japanese equity market. The successful candidate will act as a bridge between our world-class research analysts and our client base including both hedge fund (HF) and Long Only (LO) institutional investors (LO experience preferred).
