Responsibilities

Major Accountabilities/Principal responsibilities:

Associate of NAT Group, based in Tokyo, will focus on the wider energy transition markets in North Asia with a special focus on Japan in line with the bank’s global strategy to combat climate change and decarbonization.

Whilst a core requirement is working on energy projects, the Associate will also provide execution support for infrastructure, mining & metals industries and other sector specialist teams when required (e.g. telecoms or digitization).

 1) Transaction support to the relevant deal team leader on advisory and arranging mandates, including:

 - Financial modeling and analysis of financial projections

 - Review of various legal documentation, including project finance loan and security documents

 - Review of various due diligence materials

 - Assisting in preparation of credit risk analysis, credit applications and other internal approval requests

 - Assisting in preparation of presentations and pitch materials for clients, including contributions to client pitches themselves

 2) Support for origination and marketing, including:

 - Research on companies, market and industry trends,

 - Preparation of marketing materials, and

 - Assisting in preparation of proposals and pitchbooks

 3) Support on transaction monitoring and compliance aspects, including audit exercises

Profile required

Experience & Knowledge 

  • Relevant bachelor’s degree in and/or a professional financial qualification
  • At least 3-5 years’ structured finance experience including energy structured finance in a major corporate institution e.g. Financial Institution or Project Developer
  • Whilst experience in the energy sector or projects in particular Japan is preferred, candidates may also have gained experience in others industry sectors e.g. infrastructure, telecoms/digitization, mining & metals.
  • Fluency in Japanese and English


Behavioural competency required:

  • High proficiency in cash flow modelling using Excel and Project Finance documentation
  • Ability to perform financial projections and credit analysis
  • Keeps abreast of evolving industry trends and market updates in Finance and Energy Transition sectors in Japan and Asia Pacific region
  • Analytical skills and ability to rationalise and communicate complex scenarios
  • Ability to cope with workload pressures with short deadlines
  • Strong focus on compliance and business ethics
  • Proactive approach to develop business adapted to clients' and markets' needs
  • Ability to work with people with diverse, international backgrounds, and act upon tram’s priorities 
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and manage competing deadlines, and deliver on team’s priorities

The Natural Resources & Infrastructure Financing Group at Societe Generale provides a full range of finance and advisory services for its clients through four key platforms: Energy+ group, Mining, Metals & Industries, Trade and Sustainable Commodity Finance, and Infrastructure Finance.

The provision of financial advisory services and lending in the context of energy transition is key development focus. There is also a strong focus on using both new and existing distribution channels. The team also works closely with other business lines on joint mandates to offer integrated services.

The NAT business line in Asia-Pacific is responsible for the origination and execution of structured and project finance debt for clients and large projects across asset classes in Asia-Pacific including renewables, energy transition new technologies as well as Metals & Mining and Infrastructure sectors (energy transition related, general and digital). The clients include owners, developers and investors in these asset classes. Other key clients include financial, institutional and pension funds who invest into these sectors.
