Rates Strategist - Associate
Responsibilities
The Rates Research team delivers strategic research and recommendations on global rates markets to Societe Generale’s clients and provides key support to the FIC business (sales, trading, and DCM). All research is published via www.sgmarkets.com. The team is based in London, Paris, New York, Hong Kong, and Bangalore. This London-based role reports directly to a senior strategist.

Role Overview
The position is built around three core pillars:
- Research Contribution
- Contribute to written and client-facing research output.
- Gradually take ownership of specific market coverage areas.
- Analytical Development
- Build and maintain analytical tools and models using Python, Excel, and VBA.
- Conduct extensive data analysis to support team objectives.
- Team & Project Support
- Provide day-to-day assistance to the team.
- Participate in project-based work while developing expertise in rates markets and fixed income products.
- Develop a strong understanding of rates markets and fixed income products.
- Support internal processes and improve team efficiency through analytical tasks.
- Participate in long-term projects, demonstrating independence and project management skills.
- Write and publish research (subject to regulatory exams).
- Collaborate with global team members and other GRS departments.
- Maintain a proactive attitude and continuous learning mindset.
- Complete all required regulatory exams for client contact.
Research Product
- Collect and verify public data from reliable sources.
- Build and maintain econometric/financial models for forecasting.
- Ensure models meet professional standards and update/improve as needed.
- Supervise data collection and model reliability checks.
- Innovate in data collection and analysis to add client value.
- Prepare and publish research documents regularly.
- Respect internal and external regulations.
- Leverage cross-asset research findings and collaborate across teams.
- Respond to bespoke client requests within compliance guidelines.
Research Marketing
- Communicate findings to internal/external clients via calls, messages, meetings, and conferences.
- Build and maintain long-term client relationships in line with regulatory requirements.
- Respond to client queries and onboard new clients when necessary.
- Actively share research with internal teams and participate in sales meetings.
- Capture feedback electronically using CRM tools.
- Provide qualitative feedback to management.
- Represent the company publicly when approved.
Conduct
- Adhere to all internal rules and external regulations.
- Comply with operational and conduct risk requirements.
- Maintain professionalism and rigor to protect market share and reputation.
- Ensure research meets SG standards and quality benchmarks.
- Escalate conduct-related issues appropriately.
- Control costs and minimize unnecessary expenses.
Profile required
· Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, computer science, econometrics, quantitative finance, or a related science/data-based field is highly beneficial.
· Some experience in fixed income, financial markets, or macroeconomics is required, with a proven interest in capital markets, investing, and macroeconomic developments.
· Strong analytical mindset, demonstrated through academic background or relevant work experience.
· Quick learner with the ability to develop a deep understanding of fixed income products and related markets, ideally seeking a long-term career in fixed income research.
· Superior knowledge and understanding of data analysis tools and techniques, with excellent proficiency in Excel and working knowledge of Python (or other programming languages), and a willingness to further develop coding skills.
· Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
· Enthusiastic, proactive, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
