Research Associate (Campus)
Responsibilities
We are looking for college seniors to join Bernstein’s premier Equity Research team in our New York office. If you have a passion for research and are interested in building a long-term career in the investing world, there’s no better place to start than Bernstein. We offer a unique opportunity to become an industry expert as you work alongside a seasoned veteran who will mentor and develop you.
Our Research Associates play an important role in producing the research Bernstein is famous for: unbiased, independent, thematic, collaborative, data-driven, and always differentiated. You will develop relationships across the investing community and over time become a thought partner to our clients. You will work closely with your team but also have a high degree of autonomy and independence. We provide an intellectually challenging but supportive environment for careers in investment research and look for team players with exceptional communication skills. These roles are typically three- to five-year positions with outstanding growth potential. Our Associate positions have historically been excellent platforms for internal advancement to Senior Research Associate, Vice President, and Senior Analyst roles. We additionally have many Associates go on to graduate school or successful careers in investing or industry.
As a Research Associate, you will:
· Develop sector expertise working with a Senior Analyst who is a seasoned industry expert
· Become highly proficient at in-depth analysis of your companies, stocks and industry themes
· Author written research that is famous for its deep industry insights and analytical rigor, including our signature Blackbook product
· Become adept at financial forecasting, including building detailed forward-looking models
· Build strong relationships across the investing community, including our sales and trading teams and institutional clients
· Build a network within your industry including senior management of your companies
Profile required
We seek candidates who love to solve problems, analyze data, and are passionate about in-depth fundamental analysis. Our Research Associates hold undergraduate degrees and typically have track records of outstanding academic performance; master’s degrees are not unusual. We look for evidence of thought leadership, intellectual breadth, quantitative rigor and a differentiated approach to solving problems. Currently we are seeking candidates who will graduate between December 2024 and June 2025. We look carefully at your academic background as well as prior experience for evidence of the following:
- Excellent broad-based analytical skills
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
- Strong quantitative backgrounds and the ability to work with data sets, including engineering, math and science degrees
- Relentless intellectual curiosity – our signature strength
Please submit your resume and cover letter (we’re a research firm, and we value a well-crafted narrative). We are interested in your background and unique story, including how you performed as a student. While grades and test scores don’t tell the entire story, it is helpful for us to review them to better understand your academic strengths so please include those too (SAT, ACT, GRE – whatever you think is relevant). We look forward to learning more about you!
How We Invest in You
We have an outstanding Associate program and make a strong commitment to your development. Our culture is intellectually rigorous, but it is also very collegial and fun. We have robust learning and development programs as well as annual offsite events. We offer a flexible work schedule, but our in-office environment is very active. Our Associates are highly involved in (and often lead) our firm’s cultural initiatives, ranging from health & wellness, community service, mentoring, employee resource groups, social events, and Associate leadership. Here are a few highlights of what we have to offer:
- Competitive compensation offerings, including retirement plans with matching employer contributions
- A holistic employee benefit package to support your and your family’s health and wellness
- Sponsorship of your required SIE, Series 7 and 63 licenses
- Flexible time off and a hybrid work model
- Associate development and mentoring programs
