Specialist Software Engineer - Datastage
Responsibilities
We are looking for an experienced Senior DataStage Developer to lead our data engineering and migration initiatives. In this role, you will architect, develop, and optimize large-scale data processing and analytics solutions, with a strong focus on modernizing our Datawarehouse ecosystem into Snowflake. You will work with advanced technologies to deliver high‑quality pipelines for data ingestion, transformation, storage, and processing. Your expertise in both traditional ETL tool like DataStage and Snowflake will play a key role in shaping our data modernization strategy while ensuring the performance, reliability, and scalability of our next‑generation data platform.
Lead the migration of existing DataStage workloads to Snowflake Lakehouse, ensuring scalable, high-quality solutions.
- Provide technical leadership in data modeling, ELT/ETL design, performance tuning, and Snowflake best practices.
- Drive analysis, refactoring, and optimization of legacy code to align with Snowflake architecture.
- Oversee testing, validation, debugging, and automation of migrated pipelines.
- Collaborate closely with cross‑functional and distributed teams, representing the engineering team as the SPOC for status, risks, and delivery updates.
- Guide DevOps activities including CI/CD, environment setup, and release readiness.
- Mentor junior engineers, enforce coding standards, and ensure adherence to engineering guidelines.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies and ensure high-quality, defect‑free sprint deliveries.
Profile required
Job Description
- 5-7 years of experience in DataStage development within Data Warehousing projects.
- Strong hands‑on experience with Snowflake SQL, including complex queries and performance tuning.
- Good understanding of ETL/Data Warehouse concepts, including data validations and reconciliation.
- Strong knowledge of Unix commands and shell scripting.
- Experience with Control-M for scheduling DataStage and Unix jobs.
- Proficient in SQL, with strong analytical skills to identify data anomalies and provide resolutions.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments and active participation in Agile ceremonies.
- Ability to work as an individual contributor, taking ownership of deliverables end-to-end.
- Good communication skills to collaborate with Business Analysts (BAs) on technical issues and acceptance criteria for business changes in pre-prod and prod environments.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to address business and production requirements.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to work with multiple stakeholders.
- Good to have: Knowledge of cloud data platforms.
Responsibilities
- Independently design, develop, and test DataStage components, ensuring alignment with acceptance criteria and software craftsmanship principles.
- Deliver across all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) in line with Agile practices.
- Manage production deployments and provide post‑production support.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and implement data pipelines.
- Ensure timely and effective communication with counterparts, stakeholders, and partners.
- Identify and address recurring production issues and propose improvement actions.
- Manage and support production batch loads.
- Perform release validations, ensuring defect‑free deployments.
- Prepare and maintain metrics, test results, and defect reports.
