Role Overview:
We are looking for an experienced MVS Support Engineer with strong expertise in COBOL, JCL, and MVS. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in debugging Mainframe jobs, analyzing workflows, and developing new programs for Data Warehousing/ETL projects, particularly focused on data validation. Proficiency in MVS, JCL, and COBOL is essential.

You will be responsible for independently supporting Mainframe applications in production, collaborating with stakeholders to provide timely alerts, communicate progress, and resolve incidents. Additionally, you will analyze and debug program flows, understand implemented business rules, and enhance code or provide detailed analysis for data-related issues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently design components, develop code, and create test scenarios by applying software craftsmanship principles to meet acceptance criteria on Mainframe systems.
  • Participate and contribute actively in Agile ceremonies.
  • Deliver components to production and manage post-deployment support.
  • Collaborate with other development teams to define and implement best practices.
  • Ensure timely and accurate communication with stakeholders, counterparts, and partners.
  • Identify and assess areas for production improvement, including recurring issues.
  • Perform release validations to ensure defect-free deployments and produce metrics, test results, and defect reports.

Experience: 5–7 years in Mainframe Support and Development, preferably within the Banking domain.

Job Description

  • Provide independent support for Mainframe applications and perform development activities as required.
  • Debug and develop programs using COBOL, JCL, and MVS, ensuring high-quality code and efficient workflows.
  • Utilize tools such as ENDEVOR, FILE-AID, and Platinum for development and support tasks.
  • Analyze job flows, troubleshoot issues, and perform detailed debugging to ensure smooth operations.
  • Actively participate in Agile processes, including ceremonies, and contribute to team collaboration.
  • Analyze existing applications, prepare technical documentation, and establish comprehensive test books.
  • Manage program migrations across environments and ensure successful deployments.
  • Schedule and manage Unix jobs on Mainframe systems.
  • Collaborate effectively with Business Analysts to address technical failures and define acceptance criteria for production changes.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with stakeholders through verbal and written channels.
  • Demonstrate strong teamwork skills while independently driving projects to closure.
