Department Description

The Financing and Advisory Group sits within the Global Banking & Advisory business line and covers 8 industry sectors. Our industry sector teams are international teams with offices in Europe, Asia Pacific and the Americas. We offer a full range of finance (in particular, project finance and asset finance) and advisory services with a strong focus on delivering the best banking products for each industry sector. We provide services to a diverse group of clients including local and international corporates, the public sector, developers and investors.

We are currently recruiting a Trainee to join our Financing and Advisory Group in Japan. This is an exciting opportunity to get hands-on experience within a fast-paced, results focused, global organisation that values diversity and that has strong growth ambitions for the Asia Pacific business.

Responsibilities: 

The successful candidate will primarily support the origination and execution activities across a broad range of structured finance transactions in the Asia Pacific market. The candidate will work across sector teams within Financing and Advisory, with a focus on project financing transactions in Energy, Infrastructure, the Battery, Mining and Industries (BMI) and the Technology, Media and Telecom (TMT) sector.

Based in Tokyo, the candidate will need to work closely with the Hong Kong, Singapore and Sydney teams as required, as well as regional teams in other APAC region. The candidate will also work with other areas of the bank such as client coverage, loan syndication, sustainable finance, debt capital markets, credit risk management and market risk management.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Financial modelling including analysing financial scenarios and producing sensitivity analysis;
  • Providing support in all aspects of the credit process including preparation of credit applications, due diligence and assistance with utilisation of internal models
  • Managing other internal processes relating to advisory and financing transactions e.g. updating databases, briefing notes, completing internal system-based processes
  • Supporting ongoing portfolio management and gathering of client information 
  • Contributing to the identification of potential new business opportunities and assisting with preparation of research and marketing materials

Profile required

Academic Background And Certifications, Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated ability in project finance modelling preferred.

 Operational Skills

  • Ability to perform financial projections and credit analysis
  • Keeps abreast of evolving industry trends and market updates in Energy, Infrastructure and TMT sectors in Asia Pacific region
  • Analytical skills and ability to rationalise and communicate complex scenarios
  • Ability to cope with workload pressures with short deadlines
  • Strong focus on compliance and business ethics
