Trainee - Strategic & Capital Advisory (Maritime)
Responsibilities
The Strategic & Capital Advisory team (the “SCA team”), within the Maritime Industries business line (“MAI”), is one of the most experienced and innovative teams in the industry, and has been involved in numerous large, complex and high value transactions in recent years. The team, with a global remit, is focused on a diverse set of commodities, asset classes, projects and ventures within the wider maritime world. Our clients are from all the maritime industry stakeholder groups and include energy companies (national and international), shipowners, yards, ports (and related infrastructure and services), floating infrastructure companies, commodity owners/buyers, energy, power & utilities, ship-charterers and financial institutions.
The main responsibilities include the following:
Support day‑to‑day deal execution, including due diligence, valuation analysis, contract review, and collaboration with senior management and deal leaders.
Ensure all transaction administration is completed accurately and on time, with details properly recorded in the bank’s systems (e.g., Financing Platform).
Assist with pitching and marketing to new and existing clients, preparing proposals, product materials, and tailored solutions.
Conduct research, prepare data, and draft pitch materials to help originate new projects, clients, and transactions for the SCA team.
Act as a key contributor to SG’s expanding Maritime Industries platform, working in lean teams and gaining direct exposure to clients and senior experts across London, Paris, Dubai, Hong Kong, and Singapore.
Play a meaningful role in mandates by providing timely updates, coordinating deliverables, and ensuring a cohesive approach to client outcomes.
Develop and run quantitative models to assess the economic and financial performance of projects, companies, and transactions.
Analyse financial data, market developments, and industry trends relevant to the MAI business line and its clients.
Assess financial risks and compare company financials with peers in similar industries, sizes, and geographies.
Prepare clear, structured written analyses and evaluations of opportunities and investment considerations for the SCA team and its clients.
Profile required
What we are looking for:
Any from the following would be considered a positive, the ones in bold are especially desirable;
M&A/Corporate Finance or Strategic Advisory;
Shipping and offshore (FPSO, FSRU, FLNG);
Investment banking knowledge / experience;
Big-4 consulting;
Broader energy sector.
ESG activities related to the above
Ability to write clear, structured and comprehensive emails and analysis for internal purposes and communications with clients
Assist with assessment, structuring and documentation (i.e. termsheets, powerpoints, memos)
Assist with valuation of asset-based investments using comparisons, DCF and other relevant metrics
High-level understanding of sector specific clients, investors and banks
